Walking downtown with a pocket knife or some other type of knife . . . is not necessarily a criminal offence

YET!

Next they'll ban hands. Those can be used as fists, you know.

And just think! All the idiot gun-grabbers want to reduce America to this kind of insanity!

"Latest police statistics show weapons offences, which aren't broken down by type, are on the rise, up 13 per cent last year over 2003."

Gotta wonder if they're not broken down by type because they would show how ineffective their gun bans are.

"About midnight Sunday, a Toronto man, 27, was arrested in Club Phoenix after a Waterloo man, 23, received a shoulder cut when he was stabbed with a broken bottle."

Hmmm...didn't know folks in England were carrying broken bottles in their pockets.

Best Regards

Well the answer is clear: cutlery must be banned.

But fear not, law-abiding citizens. The state will cut your meat FOR you.

One of the crime fighting techniques of the police in london was to put up a flyer at the site of a crime. The flyer describe the crime, victim, and assailant.

But crime so exploded in London that the city was soon wallpapered with these flyers and the police stopped posting them.

"If you grow up bombarded by violence, it will have an impact," he said, referring to TV, movies and video games."

I'm not going to say that an inundation of violent scenes isn't having some sort of impact; however Television et al is the current scapegoat. It doesn't matter to some that violence pre-dates Television. A case could easily be made that violence was more rampant as well.

I wonder if the level of exposure we are currently experiencing might not be having the opposite effect as people are more aware of the results of violent behavior, and have outlets for their aggression.

They better ban grinders and all metal because with one and the other a fairly good knife can be made in about a hr.

A file and metal just takes a bit longer.

But then who needs metal some tape and glass will work just fine. Oh I forget you can make knifes out of the right kind of rock.

Damm I guess disarmament only hurts the honest people.

The problem is not the presence of knives.

The problem is the absence of Judeo-Christian moral values.

Not parody:

Scotland to license knife sellers

"We had a particular discussion on the issue of knife crime recently and we have agreed a package of measures that we will be consulting on early in the New Year," said Mr McConnell. "We will be putting forward the action we believe is required to tackle the scandalously high level of knife crime in Scotland."

He said that 50% of the homicides in Scotland in 2002 were caused by knives or other sharp instruments. He said too many young men thought it was acceptable to carry a knife or other offensive weapon.

"It is not acceptable. The law in Scotland must be clear, the system must protect innocent victims and the culture of Scotland, particularly in our cities, in relation to knives and violent crime, must change," he said.

BBC Scotland political editor Brian Taylor said the most controversial aspect of the proposals would be the new powers for police to search those they suspect of carrying a knife.

"The reason for the clampdown is that the knife culture, the possession of knives, is actually on the increase," he said.

To get the thread on track:

The report is about London, CANADA!

It's on the other side of Lake Erie from Ohio.

BTW: The violent crime rate in Canada is twice that of the USA (don't hear much about that, eh?).

In related news, monkeys use tools

"... the results suggest... monkeys are far more skilled at understanding cause and effect than previously thought...

If monkeys already understand the use of tools in food-gathering, it's only a matter of time before they discover the concept of using tools as weapons. For now, they usually stop at flinging poop or perhaps biting, but scientists foresee a slippery slope to full-out monkey on monkey violence. It's time to ban rocks and twigs now, before it's too late. Oh, and ban poop, too.

Const. Jeff Arbing said it's not uncommon to find a weapon such as a pocket knife on someone being arrested.

Lordy, except when I was going to fly, I don't think I have been out of the house without a pocket knife since I was 5.

Hi All-

Years ago my car got picked to be turned inside-out during a trip to visit Canadian relatives. I've made countless visits across our northern border and this was the first time my "number" has ever come up.

The official scrutinized my Benchmade Mini-AFCK pretty closely and even opened and closed it a half-dozen times before handing it back to me. Maybe having my grandmother along convinced her of my genuine, kind, and peaceful nature. It seems like there would be MUCH more important things to worry about than harmless 3.00" pocket knives...
