She is dizzy, almost wobbly. Her head aches, her coughing won't stop, and because she doesn't have enough money she has not filled her four prescriptions nor seen a doctor recently.

But that doesn't stop her.

Soon it will be midnight, and Ipifania Dominguez will be back at work cleaning up blood, bone and fat in the world's largest pork slaughterhouse. She'll be back in the "head room," as she calls it, where meat is cut from pigs' heads.

I apologize
I was wrong for listing it.

Gee, I'm just sooo ashamed -NOT. There is no guarantee that a newspaper ad would have been answered. My method worked, so that's good enough for me. As I already pointed out, there is also a shortage of $30 (min) per hour caddies in Westchester County. People here denote a stigma to menial labor. That's just the way it is.

Bingo. I play golf for two reasons: To relax and to do business. All I'm looking for from a caddie is that he keep up and he keep his mouth shut.

A true caddie is supposed to do more than just carry your clubs.

But I wouldn't expect you to know that.

Dear presidio9,

"Getting rid of welfare would lower wages to the point that some Mexicans would not feel sufficiently compensated to leave their homeland and loved ones."

So, your solution is to lower wages further? Okay. I guess that six bucks an hour IS kind of rich, isn't it.

Anyway, perhaps a few illegals might not come, but not likely many. The disparity between wages in the US and Mexico for low-skilled folks is great enough that even if throwing everyone off welfare reduced wages for low-skilled people by 20%, it's unlikely it would dissuade many Mexicans from coming to the United States.

A Mexican coming to the US for a job paying $6 per hour will likely come for $5 per hour, as it beats a couple of dollars a day, or no work at all, at home.

In any event, there aren't enough adults on welfare to displace all the illegal workers in the US. Thus, getting rid of welfare doesn't solve the problem of illegal workers in the US.

What would really start to solve the problem is to start enforcing immigration laws, to stop the flow of illegal aliens into the United States.

And to throw the book at folks who knowingly hire illegal aliens to save a few bucks on getting their lawn mowed or their house cleaned.

Congress recognized the seriousness of this problem, and folks can go to jail for knowingly hiring illegal aliens. Unfortunately, the folks that direct the enforcement of our laws are altogether too much in love with what large-scale illegal immigration of low-skill workers does for the costs of landscaping, nanny-care, and housecleaning.

Besides "health" concerns, OSHA or some "safety" element would seem to be worrisome. Afterall, if that "exhausted" momma is wobbling and weak and sniffing all those cleaning supplies... looks like some sort of lawsuit waiting to happen. State of Illinois and that "biggest pig factory" need to cover their bases on this.

P: You have a point re: foreigners working. A Chinese friend told me if one failed to answer an employer's call, there were eight standing in line waiting to be the next. A missed call or unanswered message could be one's last. That mentality is common where high populations live and it shows in the immigrants' attitudes - legal and illegal alike - from those regions of the world, unlike us where many say to employers, "Don't dare bother me on my day off!".

We need to knock the legs from under the welfare table. Its reform should be included with any immigration legislation so Americans will no longer be paid not to do those jobs Americans won't do.

That, offering bounties for code violators, and the redesign of the Social Security card would go a long way to curbing the illegal problem, but to get a new SSI card, it should be mandatory to present either a US issued passport, a certificate of citizenship, or a US issued birth certificate and those document numbers linked to the SSI card. Then we can increase the number of greencard recipients because major focus would then be directed to legal immigrations.

Let's see here you pay $100 for 4 hours cleaning and $120 for 4 hours golf.
You can't find an American worker willing to tote around a golf bag for $30 an hour???

The market is their nation and their religion.

Precisely. There is nothing the least bit patriotic or Christian about the OBL, as CBG so clearly proved. To be a Christian is to value human beings and human life above market efficiency and their satanically prideful definition of personal autonomy. That is why this proposal is going nowhere because it is getting no support among Joe Sixpack cultural conservatives.

The paganism of the "free market at all costs" libertarian is just another kind of 20th century atheist pseudo-intellectual playing God, convinced of his towering superiority, full of sneering contempt for humanity and a yearning to sacrifice the lives, well being and happiness of millions to his vision of the perfect world. You heard Publius Valerius, just now. Called me Comrade but talks like Lenin.

My only point of real difference is that I would like that (probably TB) cough treated properly though, until we can send her back.

Simple self interest: TB is highly contagious and she's coughing over my meat, into the face of grocery clerks etc<<

I'm sorry. I know I'm sounding cold-hearted, but send her back without treatment and get the places she's been throughly checked out. If she has TB, that's still another reason to deport immediately and fine the Company she's been working for.

If feel-good syndrome means we must treat illegals, make the company that he/she works for pay 100% of any medical! Bet that will stop these immoral, supposedly American companies from aiding and abetting lawbreakers. Or, send a bill to the persons Government - she can work it off for her own country somehow. Maybe she can cut Vicente's meat for him.

Illegals bringing disease into this country that have all but been eradicated on these shores are a threat to everyone - especially the children (I threw that in for liberals).

There is a feel-good story about illegals from Uruguay in my hometown paper. They admit to paying smugglers to get them through Mexico and into the USA, they admit to their family paying a ransom, they admit to using unknown drugs. The man is in the hospital now getting treated for a failed kidney. These two have no passports, no visas, no nothing. Note: ORIGINAL COUNTRY IS URUGUAY!

Now, why in the heck should my tax dollars go to paying these illegal aliens medical bill? Why are they not being throughly questioned? Why is the wife, whose health is OK, not cooling her heels in jail?

Besides their ill health, illegals could be bringing information to smugglers networks - both people and drugs, they could be terrorists or giving messages to terrorists.

No Amnesty, No Sympathy for Illegals.

Funny though, how Bush picked up more of their votes in the last election. I guess it's just not as big of a deal as the anti-immigration crowd makes it out to be.

No its a big deal, Kerrys promised amnesty was more unedible than Bush's lie about no amnesty...If Kerry had run on an anti-illegal immigration policy he darn well might have won..just look at Hillary posturing..

Would you like a US where people have to live under those conditions?? Were getting back to sweatshop conditions like this country had at the turn of the century if so.

Ah, yes--TB. Not easily diagnosed in the USA because it almost never occurs in the US population--except in those afflicted by AIDS and those who are illegals.

So when it spreads, there may be a mis-diagnosis.

But the PC treatment of AIDS-sufferers is likely to be the model for treatment of the illegals with this condition--say and do NOTHING!!! except administer a little penicillin, and hope that they don't spread it around any more.

That is precisely what the OBL types want. The good old days of company police and company towns when workers were paid in credits at the companys store. Before workers were "overpaid" as Publius Valerius put it.

If incidences of cholera, typhus, diptheria, etc, all those Third World diseases multiply due to illegal immigration, hey, not your problem so long as you saved money on labor costs !

Face it, some people can't see beyond their noses. They don't live in neighborhoods where there is an everyday possiblity of catching diseases like those mentioned. They aren't listening...

Of course not!

The point is if our population gets where we have a glut of laborers - and cheaply paid ones, that's exactly where we're headed.

But if you go to jail for hiring illegals, you just may lose your customers...

That's OK. There's plenty of work for people who cut lawns when you get out of Sandstone.
