In the interest of fairness---before people start their usual Hinn-bashing---perhaps it is worth noting that some in the Janata party have called for a return to "sutee," or ritual wife-burning (mandated) when the husband dies. So progressive, those Indians.

"...who claims to have the power to heal the sick and dying..."

As much as I dislike (and distrust) Benny Hinn, I don't think he is stupid enough to make such a claim. I think he gives God credit for the power.

Hinn's last programme in Mumbai was easily the biggest ever he has ever organised in his own words- with millions attending on the 3 days. The funny thing is that these same folks in the BJP couldn't say a thing last time around as Hinn infact got a nod of approval from Bal Thackeray,a rather peculiar leader who mixes extreme regional chauvenism with Hindu identity politics & who is a strong ally of the BJP.Nothing happens in Mumbai without Thackeray knowing & since he gave the go ahead, the show went on smoothly.& mind you,the Mumbai meeting was held when a BJP led coalition headed the central government.

Heh, well this is one more nation that does not practice and encourage the dissolution of its own culture under the rubric of 'multiculturalism', nope, not even 'democratic' India.

Does anyone outside of Western nations engage in this self erasure?

The Florida-based pastor, who claims to have the power to heal the sick and dying,

MSM once again playing loose with facts, as Mr. Hinn lives in Calif. and give the credit to Someone Else for the power to heal.

No, the event is a conspiracy to fill Hinn's coffers. He's nothing but a heretic.

Televangelists (and pedophile priests) do more to damage their beloved faiths than any outside entity. For every convert they gain, untold numbers of youths and non-Christians are turned off to religion permanently by these overwrought TV pitchmen.

The event has drawn strong opposition from the BJP, the Bajrang Dal and the Hindu Jagarana Vedike who see it as a conspiracy to convert the poor and vulnerable sections to Christianity.

Unless something has changed, I think that there is little danger that Hinn's ministry will convert anyone to Christianity.

Benny Hinn is a charlatan of the worst sort, and I condemn him in the strongest possible terms. Pray for anyone who takes him seriously.

Wouldn't want to give them any hope now would we?

Ya know as a Christian I am disturbed at the indians that are against this function. Almost as disgusted as I was the one time I watched Benny Hinn. I mean, can you say Jim Bakker?

They shouldn't worry. Hinn is really just promoting himself and his bank account in my opinion. (ducking)

I (gulp) actually liked Benny before I heard him tell a new convert to "cut your hair and get rid of the earring!"
Didn't Jesus accept people for who they are? Does not wearing an earring and having short hair make one a better Christian?
Needless to say, I can't take him seriously anymore.

"The Florida-based pastor, who claims to have the power to heal the sick and dying,..."

Stop reading the piece right there. Wrong.

Think what you will of Hinn, but he has never, EVER claimed to have the power to heal the sick and dying. He gives 100% of the "credit" to God. He knows full well that only God can heal the sick and dying, and he has never said otherwise.

Whoever wrote this piece is lazy and laden with snide preconceptions because of Hinn's profession.

Are there any more obvious frauds out there than Benny Hinn? If so, they are few and far between.

What a con.
