No I was referring to teams that turn the ball over deep in their opponent's territory.
"A great example was during last year's Super Bowl. Carolina scores early in the 4th quarter and Fox decides to go for two and they miss. If he had opted to kick the extra point Vinatieri's late field goal would have been to tie the game instead of winning it"
I've heard that repeated by the pundits, but with the final score of 32-29 I don't see how that would have changed the outcome.
Here's how. If Carolina kicks it the score is 21-17 Pats. Carolina scores again and it would have been 24-21 Cats. Pats score again to make it 28-24. Cats last touchdown would have made it 31-28 which means Vinatieri's field goal ties the game.
Yeah but the final score was 32-29. If the Panthers made the extra point it would have ended up 32-30. Am I wrong?
No. Carolina lost two points when they failed on their two conversion attempts rather than just kicking the extra points.
I don't think Bradshaw was an overrated passer. Not because I think he was great, just because I never heard anyone seriously praise his passing. His overall cotrol, his game management (as one of the then dieing breed that called their own plays), and his ability to read defenses I've all heard praised, but not his passing. I doubt somebody like Bradshaw would ever be a starter in today's game, but he could probably get a job as an offensive coordinator.
Still ends up 32-31 according to my Mass public school math.
If the Panthers kicked those two extra points they would have scored 31 instead of 29.
If they couldn't stop Manning, they'd have opened up the offense and blown them out that way. The Colts were going to lose either way. Even at worst, the Patriots defense was going to slow down the Colts.
True. The Patriots only score as many points as they need to win because Belichick doesn't want to risk a turnover.
Out of the teams remaining, Atlanta, Philly, Pittsburg and New England, there is only ONE team that can give New England trouble....it's the Falcons.
So, if the Pats beat the Steelers and the Falcons beat the Eagles, it's the Pats and Falcons in the Super Bowl.
The winner....Atlanta Falcons.
Which is why I was "invested" heavily on the Patriots. :-)
I'm not making any predictions about the game, but I'd also like to note, in addition to my first reply, that in the October game the Patriots were without Deion Branch and Patrick Pass, too-- not just Dillon. The only significant loss since then is Law (who got hurt in that game) and Seymour. We might have Seymour for some of the game. Seymour's absence is bigger than Law's against a team like the Steelers.
