Check out this video of an LST taking a couple of JDAMs from a B-52. The damage is extensive. Download time is short - even on a dial-up like mine.

I agree, I couldn't believe that the ship didn't sink, either, especially after seeing this video a while back:

I had a buddy who served on an LST, he always said it stood for Long Slow Target.

No combustibles onboard.

I thought the secondary explosion at the stern was caused by something combustible?

Damn, B-52 seems to carry almost anything from toilet to UAVs and missiles.

What's the difference between a JDAM and a smart bomb? I don't understand the significance of this video.

Message to China: those subs you're buying won't help.

we must have a link that triangulates sonar data, then shoots to satalites then to the air craft carrying the Jdams. Pretty slick.

The link is correct

The problems are due to the server being overwhelmed by requests.

Relax and try again a bit later. or sit there and keep click refresh until you get in.

Yeah, that nickname started at least as long ago as WWII, according to the printed sources I've seen (not being old enough to have been there).

The new Kilo class subs China is buying has an AIP system which will allow it to stay underwater for upto 10 days.I don't see a B-52 armed with anti-ship JDAMS being a problem for it-though they will surely factor in how China deploys it's LSTs.

A JDAM is a specific type of smart bomb. It has a reasonable glide range to target, which means your platform can release it between 5 and 15 miles away from target
