While I loathe the practice of abortion and believe it should be illegal for all with perhaps the exception of saving the life of the mother and criminal rape*, I disagree with your argument for why it is allowed.

I believe that abortion is a product of the Hippy ideal of no consequences. It is about being able to decide that one does not want the inconvenience of carrying the child that one created through a choice for nine months before giving it up for adoption.

* Criminal Rape: Forcible rape, which consists of less than 1% of all rape in America. The chances of a pregnancy occurring from criminal rape is very small, due to the fact that forcible rape does great damage to the woman's reproductive system. The remaining 99% is Statutory Rape, where one partner is not of the legal age of consent but is still an agreeing party to the sexual act. Keep in mind that the feminist statistics stating that "A woman is raped every 90 seconds in America" includes both criminal and statutory rape. Also keep in mind that 80-85% of statutory rape consists of a relationship where the two parties are less than four years apart, often an 18-year old high school senior and his 15-year old freshman girlfriend.

I agree it is a way for them to ultimately not take responsilbity for their actions (although there is always a price to pay, most realize this after the fact (having the abortion). I also believe that it is also about money for the clinics like Planned Parenthood and greedy doctors with no ethics. Just my thoughts.

Strange... I was a relatively young (married) father back then and saw that immediately. It became crystal clear when the usual parasites argued (successfuly it turned out) that there wasn't really a choice, if one didn't have the money to pay for it, opening the warehouse doors to the tsunami of "public" funding; i.e. your wallet and mine.

Planned Parenthood clinics grossed $302.6 million last year, with $104 million coming from surgical abortions.

They also sell condoms that were ranked dead last according to Consumer Report ratings. As I read on another site..."Planned Parenthood is one-stop shopping. They give you the condom to prevent pregnancy and when that fails, they provide the abortion."

1%? Where did you get that from? I saw a statistic that in 2001, there were a little over 3,000 reported forcible rapes in New York State. Are You saying that there were roughly 300,000 statutory rapes in New York that year?

Abortion is not about saving women’s lives!

Total Abortions since 1973

44,670,812

------------------------------------------------------------

Why the drop after 1960? (in deaths of women from illegal abortions)

The reasons were new and better antibiotics, better surgery and the establishment of intensive care units in hospitals. This was in the face of a rising population. Between 1967 and 1970 sixteen states legalized abortion. In most it was limited, only for rape, incest and severe fetal handicap (life of mother was legal in all states). There were two big exceptions — California in 1967, and New York in 1970 allowed abortion on demand. Now look at the chart carefully.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Abortion Statistics - Decision to Have an Abortion (U.S.)

· 25.5% of women deciding to have an abortion want to postpone childbearing

· 21.3% of women cannot afford a baby

· 14.1% of women have a relationship issue or their partner does not want a child

· 12.2% of women are too young (their parents or others object to the pregnancy)

· 10.8% of women feel a child will disrupt their education or career

· 7.9% of women want no (more) children

· 3.3% of women have an abortion due to a risk to fetal health

2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So how many women’s lives have been saved by abortion?

Only about 3% of abortions since 1972 were reported to be “due to a risk to maternal health.” A reasonable person would recognize that not all of those cases represent a lethal risk. But let’s say they did. That means that nearly 45 million fetuses were butchered to save the lives of about 1.3 million women. Or put another way; 35 babies are killed to save each woman.

Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman.

Excellent manipulation of statistics. Except there is one tiny hole in your argument. Forcible rape occurs far more often in heavily-populated inner-city areas. Perhaps the largest inner-city areas in the nation are in the New York City area. If your statistics showed that amount in, say, North Dakota, you might have an argument. Keep in mind, I quoted NATIONAL statistics. Of course some places will have more while others have less.

More importantly, if approximately half the population of America is female, that means that approximately 22.3 million female babies were aborted. That means abortion has destroyed 22.3 million women's lives.

Do you have a source for these statistics? I find them very dubious.

It is done for "the love of money

Ya think??

Murder for hire can be a very lucrative profession when you know you won't be arrested and prosecuted for your crimes.

The old Murder Incorporated outfit in 1940's era NYC never had it nearly so good as today's gang of hired killers. They were actually punished by the law for murdering people.

Thanks for posting this.

This is another exposure of American shame via foreign media.

We need to stop government funding of the abortion industry along with preventing all murder of innocent children.

Where did you get that statistic? Any citation available?

That means abortion has destroyed 22.3 million women's lives.

You mean it has killed 22.3 million females. I suspect abortion has destroyed the lives of far more women than just the ones it has killed. But I get your point as I'm sure you see mine.

Why the rape exception?

If you believe the fetus is a child then how can you justify killing it?

Put in historical perspective, the abortion industry in America has slaughtered seven times as many helpless children as Adolf Hitler did Jews during his infamous Final Solution. What is the difference between Hitler and abortion? The world banned together and stopped Hitler.

I second Straight Vermonter's question: Why should an innocent child pay for his father's crime? Especially by being dismembered?
