While I loathe the practice of abortion and believe it should be illegal for all with perhaps the exception of saving the life of the mother and criminal rape*, I disagree with your argument for why it is allowed.

I believe that abortion is a product of the Hippy ideal of no consequences. It is about being able to decide that one does not want the inconvenience of carrying the child that one created through a choice for nine months before giving it up for adoption.

* Criminal Rape: Forcible rape, which consists of less than 1% of all rape in America. The chances of a pregnancy occurring from criminal rape is very small, due to the fact that forcible rape does great damage to the woman's reproductive system. The remaining 99% is Statutory Rape, where one partner is not of the legal age of consent but is still an agreeing party to the sexual act. Keep in mind that the feminist statistics stating that "A woman is raped every 90 seconds in America" includes both criminal and statutory rape. Also keep in mind that 80-85% of statutory rape consists of a relationship where the two parties are less than four years apart, often an 18-year old high school senior and his 15-year old freshman girlfriend.

Abortion isn't about Choice. It's about Money

Strange... I was a relatively young (married) father back then and saw that immediately. It became crystal clear when the usual parasites argued (successfuly it turned out) that there wasn't really a choice, if one didn't have the money to pay for it, opening the warehouse doors to the tsunami of "public" funding; i.e. your wallet and mine.

Planned Parenthood clinics grossed $302.6 million last year, with $104 million coming from surgical abortions.

They also sell condoms that were ranked dead last according to Consumer Report ratings. As I read on another site..."Planned Parenthood is one-stop shopping. They give you the condom to prevent pregnancy and when that fails, they provide the abortion."

Abortion is not about saving women’s lives!

Total Abortions since 1973

44,670,812

------------------------------------------------------------

Why the drop after 1960? (in deaths of women from illegal abortions)

The reasons were new and better antibiotics, better surgery and the establishment of intensive care units in hospitals. This was in the face of a rising population. Between 1967 and 1970 sixteen states legalized abortion. In most it was limited, only for rape, incest and severe fetal handicap (life of mother was legal in all states). There were two big exceptions — California in 1967, and New York in 1970 allowed abortion on demand. Now look at the chart carefully.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Abortion Statistics - Decision to Have an Abortion (U.S.)

· 25.5% of women deciding to have an abortion want to postpone childbearing

· 21.3% of women cannot afford a baby

· 14.1% of women have a relationship issue or their partner does not want a child

· 12.2% of women are too young (their parents or others object to the pregnancy)

· 10.8% of women feel a child will disrupt their education or career

· 7.9% of women want no (more) children

· 3.3% of women have an abortion due to a risk to fetal health

2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So how many women’s lives have been saved by abortion?

Only about 3% of abortions since 1972 were reported to be “due to a risk to maternal health.” A reasonable person would recognize that not all of those cases represent a lethal risk. But let’s say they did. That means that nearly 45 million fetuses were butchered to save the lives of about 1.3 million women. Or put another way; 35 babies are killed to save each woman.

Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman.

It is done for "the love of money

Ya think??

Murder for hire can be a very lucrative profession when you know you won't be arrested and prosecuted for your crimes.

The old Murder Incorporated outfit in 1940's era NYC never had it nearly so good as today's gang of hired killers. They were actually punished by the law for murdering people.

Thanks for posting this.

This is another exposure of American shame via foreign media.

We need to stop government funding of the abortion industry along with preventing all murder of innocent children.

Put in historical perspective, the abortion industry in America has slaughtered seven times as many helpless children as Adolf Hitler did Jews during his infamous Final Solution. What is the difference between Hitler and abortion? The world banned together and stopped Hitler.

I agree with the premise....it's about money....

Actually, that's all it's about....money--and not some do-gooder idealist baloney.

But I'm weary of pundits blaming the present administration for not turning back 32 years of propaganda & outright lies in only 4 years.

This President has been the only one who incrementally continues to made a difference and pursue means to right the wrongs!

GOOD ARTICLE -- worthy of a FULL posting....

Jim Robinson's Master List Of Articles To Be Excerpted

Abortion isn't about Choice -- It's about Money -- Nathan Tabor

As we prepare to celebrate next week’s gala Inauguration Day festivities in Washington, DC, Conservatives need to remember some grim realities. For the past four years we have had both a Republican president and GOP majorities in Congress, yet we have not significantly reduced the number of deaths by abortion in this country.

In fact, in the 32 years since 1973, when Roe v Wade became the law of the land, more than 45.5 million unborn children in America have been sacrificed to the gods of selfishness, hedonism and personal convenience. That comes out to well over 4,000 infanticides per day, for three-plus decades.

Put in historical perspective, the abortion industry in America has slaughtered seven times as many helpless children as Adolf Hitler did Jews during his infamous Final Solution. What is the difference between Hitler and abortion? The world banned together and stopped Hitler.

These sobering facts cause me to contemplate just why this is happening in a nation founded on morals and values. One simple answer comes to mind. It is done for "the love of money which happens to be the root of all evil."

With that in mind let’s examine the profits of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s most prominent provider of so-called "abortion rights," as revealed in its 2003-04 Annual Report.

- Planned Parenthood clinics performed 244,628 surgical abortions, an increase of 6.1 percent. A total 3.5 million surgical abortions have been performed at PP clinics to since 1970.

- Planned Parenthood clinics grossed $302.6 million last year, with $104 million coming from surgical abortions.

- Total PP income for the year was $810 million, with one-third of that, or $265.2 million, coming from public funds given by our elected officials.

- The PP organization has earned net profits for the past 18 years in a row, totaling $538 million.

Meanwhile, private donations to Planned Parenthood dropped for the second time in three years, and the number of PP-operated clinics declined from 866 to 849.

"Increases in abortions, more money from taxpayers’ pockets, and bigger profit margins – all while clinics are closing down and donations are dwindling. That is the state of Planned Parenthood," said Jim Sedlak, executive director of American Life League’s watchdog agency STOPP International.

"This report shows the public is increasingly rejecting Planned Parenthood’s radical agenda, but apparently our elected officials haven’t gotten the message. Now is the time for Americans to expand the growing efforts to close Planned Parenthood clinics and to put pressure on politicians to stop the obscene amount of money that is being funneled into the nation’s largest abortion chain."

WHY do elected officials give so much of our tax money to Planned Parenthood? WHY does "abortion on demand, and without excuse" remain legal, when a majority of Americans oppose the gruesome practice?

The answer is MONEY. Huge sums of money are spent by lobbyists and media groups, greasing politicians’ palms and simultaneously putting the public pressure on them to kowtow to the radical feminists’ clamor for "reproductive choice."

My own short-term, "out of the box" idea is simple. Since Liberals want free healthcare, let’s use their own argument against them. If a doctor performs abortions, he can’t charge for his services. It has to be free. I guarantee thousands of doctors would quit performing abortions immediately. They believe in "choice" because it lines their wallets.

On January 24th, hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans will converge on the Ellipse for the annual March for Life to the Supreme Court and Capitol, to publicly protest the 32nd anniversary of Roe v Wade. They will be demanding an end to the indefensible, immoral practice of legalized abortion in America.

Our newly inaugurated Christian president and ostensibly Conservative lawmakers should pay attention – and take decisive action.

Leaving aside the various arguments on abortion itself, the claim that pro-abortion groups are motivated by profit doesn't hold water.

By the numbers posted, each abortion performed by Planned Parenthood brings in about $1200. Surely the medical staff could make a lot more money handling prenatal care and live births.

If I were an unprincipled doctor looking to maximize profit, I'd counsel women to carry the baby to term and check back with me at least once a month.

Planned Parenthood makes big money doing abortions, as New Dimensions magazine proved about 14-15 years ago.
