Sheep's Brain Found In School Cafeteria Salad Dressing

POSTED: 11:14 am EST January 14, 2005 UPDATED: 11:26 am EST January 14, 2005

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Talk about gross.

Someone took a piece of sheep's brain from an anatomy class at a high school near Binghamton, N.Y., and put it in the salad dressing in the school cafeteria.

Police are investigating Wednesday's food-tampering incident at Vestal High School. School officials said a student found the piece of brain at the bottom of a container of dressing at the salad bar.

Students used some of the dressing before the material was discovered, but officials said there's no evidence anyone ate any of the preserved brain matter, and no one has reported getting sick.

Parents were sent a letter informing them about the incident.

Health department officials said there wasn't enough preservative in the brain matter to cause health problems.

If this is a typical public school it may be the only chance for the students to get some brains.

LOL...

Heck yeah, you beat me to it. Given the failed methodologies of the liberal educational establishment, maybe this is their next step.

Mad cow disease is spread when cow brains are mixed into cattle feed. Don't know if it works with sheep brains.

While I can understand why some of the parents may have been sheepish, at least the administration didn't try to pull the wool over anybody's eyes...that would have been a baaaaahd thing.

Someday this will make for an interesting yarn, a tale of shear disgust.

Isn't this just part of the revamped school cafeteria program to include more "brain food?" Can I get that with ketchup?

Right after a Biology lab in high school, we (not me) put a fetal pigs ear in a classmates milk at lunch. He didn't find it until his milk was almost all gone, then he really lost his lunch.

I thought I was clever, but I can't compete with this:

Don't know if it works with sheep brains.

Prion diseases do exist in sheep. The one most commonly cited is called Scrapie. It has been reported that sheep byproducts infected with Scrapie when fed to cattle will cause Mad Cow.

I hope that the sheep brain did not originate in Canada or the UK, as that is where the problems have been centered.

If I ever catch anyone messing with my food, he better like the idea of spending the rest of his life eating through a straw.

Food tampering is an extremely heinous crime, and it is real easy to wind up poisoning someone.

Thus answering the question, "What can you try to make out of a sow's ear and a fetal pig's ear, respectively?"

A silk purse and a sick person.
