LITTLE ROCK Capt. John Stubbs of Searcy, commanding officer of Charlie Company of the 39th Infantry Brigade's 3rd Battalion, is proud of his snipers. He has some reason to be. In a 20-minute engagement Thursday, the company's snipers, with help from a backup platoon, killed seven insurgents mounting a mortar attack on a U.S. military encampment at Baghdad, Iraq, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Friday.
"They fought very aggressively," Stubbs said of his soldiers, in an interview with reporter Michael Wood, embedded with the Arkansas National Guard troops in Iraq. "These guys did really, really, really great. I'm real proud of every one."
The snipers from Charlie Company had been sent into the Adhamiya district of Baghdad hours before the hostilities broke out, while it was still dark.
About 3 p.m. Thursday, they saw 10 insurgents launch six to eight mortar rounds on Camp Dakota. They moved into position to take out the insurgents, set up on the grounds of an elementary school.
Six of the insurgents were killed in the initial stages of the engagement, and soldiers of the backup platoon also from Charlie Company killed a seventh with small-arms fire and hand grenades.
The soldiers of Charlie Company confiscated several weapons afterward and destroyed four of the insurgents' vehicles.
The weapons confiscated included rocket-propelled grenade rounds, mortar rounds, rocket launchers, several different kids of automatic assault rifles, hand grenades and stacks of loaded ammunition magazines.
One soldier from Charlie Company suffered minor wounds from shrapnel, but was expected to return to duty soon.
Kill them! Great job.
Most of those good ole boys from the Searcy area have been "crawling around on (their) bellies", hunting deer since the age of six. Knocking off these bozos must seem akin to shooting fish in a barrel; a deer has much more sense than your average sheethead.
Hopefully the seven turds KIA'd with receive their 72 virgins, who all look like Helen Thomas. Enjoy it.
A Country Boy Can Survive
Terrorist hunting season is year-round - with no bag limit!
Go get 'em boys!
I only lived in Arkansas for about 18 months but I sure wouldn't want to mess with some of the hunters I knew down there on any turf in the world.
Here's to the Searcy Seven! May your virgins resemble Barbara Mikulski!
Way to go boys!
Shooting is second nature to Arkansans. Heck, even my mother can handle a pistol and a rifle.
I hadn't heard guard units have snipers attached. It could be these snipers are just the units best shots. I didn't read past the excerpt but I didn't see any mention of how many snipers participated.
In any case, good job!
You can't get any better than ARKANSAS!!!!! :-)
In Ohio that rates you free beers into perpetuity! Great work!!
Not meaning to demean Arkansas, but TEXAS has some d*mn good shots as well......
Snicker!
Great work, Charlie Co. !!!
Yes. And that is before they are cycled through Camp Robinson, where NG trains snipers.
Just like prairie dog hunting. They pop there head out of the sand and we take it off.
"Don't bother runnin' you'll just die tired."
10 observed insurgents. 7 dead insurgents.
I hope the last 3 three are in a position to give our troops some information.
Paging Alvin York. Sgt.York please report to your C.O.
National Guard HOOAH! ping
