I had just finished 8th grade in the summer of 68. I remember spring training and preseason training for football was very hot. Probably hotter in San Antonio than Birmingham though.

The M16 I had to use was filthy. How often did they clean those things??

Congrats to the AF, of course you won't get to the REAL AF until you graduate from tech school. I'm a 1N0, came in as an A1C, also (for both college and JROTC time). You may see our class tile on the ceiling (if they're still up there). Let us know where you're first duty station will be! Welcome, Airman!

Oh, yes, how could I have almost forgotten Maggies? Excellent food (when they're open). Don't forget Catfish Corner for all you can eat catfish (mmmmm...).

Welcome to the Profession of Arms, and to the cadre of rough men.

Back from basic traing as an A1C? Have they changed the designation of the rank? When I finished basic back in 1960 I was an A3C and had to get through A2C before I could be promoted to A1C.

Anyway, congrats. I loved the AF and I wish you well.

I was at the Presidio for Chinese in 1984. They have moved all the Russian there from what I understand.

Congratulations "A1C Scourge"

The Air Force is a good life experience for those who take it seriesly, and avail themselves of the educational opportunities that are offered. Use it

"Oh, speaking of my wife, she is at Sheppard studying to be a Med Tech...good stuff...

I went through the Medical Service Specialist (AFSC 902X0) school at Sheppard AFB in 1976, good program. The only problem I had was steering clear of the Airmen's Club (grin).

I miss her but it is the nature of the beast, we knew what we were getting into."

When I served the Air Force had a pretty liberal "JDA" (joint duty assignment) policy. With any luck, maybe you and your wife will be assigned to the same base.

"on a side not(e)...I had 1 341 pulled the entire time I was there....facial hair grows fast in my family...lol'

LOL, I got hammered for the same exact thing.

Good luck, and serve well brother in blue.

Best wishes, Blue Scourge. Yes, you do have to go through it to understand it. I am cold to this day remembering 15 degrees in morning formation at Ft. Campbell, KY in 1969. Some of you are used to that temp, but someone coming form 70 degrees in S. California is not.

Normally, I'd tweak ya for even CALLING USAF BMT rough, try 14 weeks at Parris Island in AUGUST but what the heck, I'm in a good mood. Congrats

Oh, BULLSH*T!! You jarheads think it's easy for us to carry around those pencils and clipboards all day. Them fuc*ers get HEAVY after awhile! Then there's the chow. Same crap day after day. Steak and eggs for breakfast, beef bourguignonne and sauteed fresh vegetables for lunch and the same choices for dinner all the time. We were forced to pick from Oysters Rockefeller, chateau briand, pork loin roast (with new potato's or some crappy fish dish like lobster or scallops. You try that crap for a few years and then tell me how easy we had it.
