Soros Dumps More Money on the Democrats
NewsMax.com ^ | 1/13/05 | Carl Limbacher

Billionaire George Soros is undeterred after the Democrat's disastrous showing last November -- and the fact he pumped tens of millions into the campaign -- to no avail.

In the face of President Bush's strong re-election showing, a group of left-leaning billionaires led by Soros has resolved to pump even more money into the cause of "progressive" politics.

Their goal is clear: build a left-wing coalition whose aim is to stop the political stampede of conservatism in America.

The Financial Times reports the billionaire group not only includes hedge-fund guru and noted Bush-hater George Soros, but California savings-and-loan owners Herb and Marion Sandler, and Peter Lewis, chairman of an Ohio insurance company.

Also, said the paper, Stephen Bing, Hollywood film producer and real estate heir, may also be involved in the left-wing cartel.

Between the big three — Soros, the Sandler's and Lewis — they donated more than $63 million of their fortunes during the 2004 election cycle in a bid to knock off Bush, the Times reports.

In fact, their contributions helped Democrats to out-raise Republicans in the arena of campaign contributions.

Still, their money didn't matter. Kerry still lost.

But rather than ask for their money back, the billionaires now are escalating their war on conservatives.

The Times reports that, according to some sketchy details of a meeting between the billionaires in (where else?) San Francisco last month, they will spend more money over a longer period of time to build left-wing institutions in Washington, D.C. and in key swing states.

Figures tossed around by some sources familiar with the meeting range from $25 million to $100 million over five to 15 years.

The money will likely be parsed out through a couple of established organizations.

One of them is the Open Society Institute, which is Soros' brainchild. The other, The Center for American Progress, is run by John Podesta, former chief of staff to Bill Clinton.

Despite spending tens of millions of dollars to influence the 2004 election, Soros & Co., in the end, discovered money can't buy votes or ideology.

But rather than learn their lesson, they have borrowed a page from the liberal political playbook: Just throw more money at the problem and that'll fix it.

This is by far the most salient line of the whole article. LOL

"Still, their money didn't matter. Kerry still lost."

Yeah who wouldve thunk it....A country built on religion would have a hard time with a medal throwing, blame america, flip flopper with no backbone....I'm surpised! Plus his wife....don't even get me started on her...
It's like Ann Coulter wrote in her Highlights and Lowlights column a couple of days ago

"Surprisingly, Teresa never became a major campaign issue. It turned out that supporters of a phony war hero who preyed on rich widows were also OK with the notion of a first lady who might use the F-word during Rose Garden press conferences"....lmao

It's said that insanity is doing the same thing over & over again and expecting different results.

I wish I could see Soros' face when he blows all that cash and gets skunked...again.

Gearing up for Hellary and 2008??

They're gonna spend an additional $100 Million on top of the $63 Million they already dished out?

These people are beyond scary

We should all applaud the efforts of these billionaires in their efforts to change the Democratic Party. As long as their party continues becoming more liberal and out of the mainstream, the stronger our coalition will become.

George Soros does not speak for America (as his complete failure to turn the election proves) and no amount of money from these elitist nutjobs will ever change the traditional values of the heart of America

I hold with David Horowitz (www.frontpagemag.com) and his "Shadow Party" thesis; that Soros, his billionaire buddies and the 527's and lobbying groups they either created for the occasion (America Coming Together, The Media Fund, The Open Society Institute--just two of the best known) or have bought out, have essentially purchased a controlling interest in the Democrat Party and have gradually taken it over. This was put baldly just a few weeks ago--"We've bought it. We've paid for it. It's ours"--as several of his lackeys stated openly.

Horowitz found this troubling in the extreme, but I find myself strangely reassured, as this caricature of an insane James Bond supervillain tightens his hold on the reins of the donkey party, he drives it ever further to the looney left. Americans are not stupid (whatever Michael Moore may say about us to european audiences) and they want no part of it.

Soros' megabucks may end up fueling a renaissance in the advertising business and I'm sure he is doing his part to fuel the gross national product but he cannot win elections with the slate of fruits and nuts which is all the Dem party will field nowadays and into the concievable future.

They bought the party and the Dem Leadership willingly sold it to the likes of Soros

More influence Soros has over the RATS, the more elections they'll continue to lose.
Things just keep getting better.

So much for the Rats thinking CFR was going to keep money out of influencing elections. Hillary has started a think tank too. I just looked for my notes about it and can't find it. (Someday I'm going to learn how to organize files in Word).

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Then again, we're talking about Democrats, and Democrats have made no sense in all the time I've been alive.
