RATHER STAYS HOME; EXECUTIVES SPLIT; MOONVES LOOKS TOWARDS FUTURE
*Exclusive**
CBSNEWS veteran Don Hewitt called Dan Rather's disappearance from Monday's Evening News "really stupid" during a damage control meeting on Monday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
One top source inside the CBS Broadcast Center claimed Rather was told to stay off the air on Monday, as a form of punishment!
Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer was called in to anchor the damaged ship.
CBS staffers were shocked Monday when CBS president Les Moonves suddenly tied Rather's upcoming resignation to the phony document flap, a departure from CBS's official storyline.
Moonves explained in a memo: "Dan Rather has already apologized for the segment and taken responsibility for his part in the broadcast. He voluntarily moved to set a date to step down from the CBS EVENING NEWS in March of 2005... after examining the report and thinking about its implications, we believe any further action would not be appropriate."
He NEVER apologized to the President.
Somebody CBS biggie had been at the White House last week on bended knee. The apology will come soon.
"I don't want Rather's scalp."
I find it enough that this whole, sorry episode has become known as "Rathergate." I think this above all, is what is so galling to him.
Exactly, I actually think a lot of her palaver is crocodile tears Ms. Mapes is going to be sitting pretty financially after all this. Her pension from cBiaSed is going to look rather paltry compared the mother lode she is going to cash in on now. Another chance to spew her acidic vitriol against GW. She will be moonbats' martyr to the evil Republicans.
My stars! Can't believe how much Rather looks like Nixon in that cartoon! Thanks, Constitution Day!
This asute find last nite from Howlin ....
...Heyward was working overtime to convince Bartlett that neither CBS News nor Rather had a vendetta against the White House, our source says, and from here on out would do everything it could to be fair and balanced.
Fruedian slip - but they in effect admit they were after the Bushies.
Perhaps a spot in the DNC, she's already got the contacts.
O'Really claims none of this is Dan's fault. He didn't have time to research the story himself because he just returned from covering the Convention.
I think that person was Heyward.
The intention was to assure the W.H. it was never personal, it was never political driven.
If they cannot admit the truth I can't see an apology forthcoming any time soon.
Love your artwork!!!
Well, I want to say this after what has happened. If this short of thing happened to Brit Hume or anyone else on fox, Brit Hume would have been fired and heads would have rolled more for fox! Dan Blather got away with just a slap on the wrist!
HardBall planning an hour of journalism naval-gazing at 9 pm. Actually, spin control I am sure. Keith Over-his-Head's "Rather" piece on MSNBC was about the lies of the Swift Boat vets and Armstrong Williams. (Shouldn't the CBS successful investigation be the benchmark for these to tragedys.... )
I can imagine Nixon is smiling. :-D
This is why Old Dan is sitting home and pouting........the CBS honchos
promised him they'd "stick to the story line" that Rather is "retiring".
They lied.
They got away with the Lehman forgeries in Kerry's military papers, why wouldn't they have gotten away with some additional forgeries about Bush.
What we should be dong s searching back over the tenure of the zealous liberal left-wingers and see what other stories they did are based on forgeries. How many times has 60 Minutes waved a document in the face of some corporate officer and hit him over the head with it? They were forgeries!!!
Proof that Dan was intentionally try to fake evidence to sink Bush is, of course, in the fact that he never once mentioned what Kerry might have been hiding by his refusal to sign an SF-180. This would have been much more interesting to an honest "journalist."
The two bozo's (Thornburgh + ??) who authored the P-O-S report, on Larry King live. I suppose as an alternative view, we have on LKL.... Bob Schiffer !
Les Monnvies on MSNBC hitting softballs pitched by Dan Abrams. (What was CBS' biggest mistake here, Les?)
At least Fox had Bernard Goldberg....
