Atheist sues to ban hand on Bible
The Washington Times ^ | 1/08/05 | Jon Ward

The California lawyer who tried to have the phrase "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance now wants to legally prevent President Bush from placing his hand on a Bible while being sworn in at his inauguration. Michael Newdow, an atheist doctor and lawyer from Sacramento, has filed a complaint and a motion for preliminary injunction in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking to remove prayer and all "Christian religious acts" from the Jan. 20 inauguration. Mr. Newdow, 50, asserts that the presence of Christian ministers who pray publicly at the inauguration, Christian songs and the swearing of the oath of office while a president places a hand on the Bible violates the establishment clause of the First Amendment.

Gads, I'm ashamed that this loon is from Sacramento.

He should just marry Gloria Aldred and they could one or the other be in the spotlight every day.

What I would like to know is: Who was it that unlocked the cesspool that this idiot slinked out of? We should put them together in a "lock box" somewhere so they can entertain each other and quit bothering the rest of us.

The presence of Christian influence and prayer, Mr. Newdow said, have forced him to contemplate not using his ticket to the inauguration because he does not want to feel like "an outsider."

Poor baby. Maybe he ought to save the money he spent on the ticket, hotel and transporatation and spend it on therapy instead.

We are cursed with many simpletons in our society now -- they have no life and nothing to do, but create trouble for those of us that represent the respectable portion of American society. Most of them, we call liberals...

Actually its time to use this against the courts. 10 commandments are in a book that you must swear to God to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Get sworn in a liberal judges court and erfue to do so stating that the separation of church and state.

BTW how does one swear in an atheist?

Wait until he finds out it is probably (weather permitting) going to be the Bible that belongs to the Masonic Lodge in New York. If memory serves me correctly, it is the First Masonic Lodge in NYC and is the same Bible "used" by Geo. Washington (and perhaps thirty-some-other former Presidents). It was scheduled to be used by W in 2000 and was flown down to Washington, DC but the weather did not permit its outdoor use in the ceremony. Feel free to correct me if . . . . . .

I'd love to see a judge hand this guy his head by saying the only sentence he will pronounce is this: "Mr. Newdow, get a life. Now."

If this guy is a lawyer, then it shows that the education required for law is as dismal as it is to graduate from high school.

There is a reason for "swearing on the bible". The reason is that man is making a comittment to something greater than himself, to the Almighty (however proposed). It also reflects the tradition that man's word standing alone apart from the Almighty is insufficent as a declaration of commitment or truthfulness.

Since our constitution is based on the "blessings of the Almighty", then this fella should not hold a law license, since he does not adhere to the basis of U.S. Law.

This Freakdow fella needs a life.
