Travel: Smokers called Animals In A Zoo
Minnesotans Against Smoking Bans ^ | 1-8-05 | Robert Hayes Halfpenny

Posted on 01/08/2005 9:20:21 AM PST by SheLion

I am surprised Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson didn’t refer to the smokers as swine in a pig sty. Isn’t that, after all one of the one of the first images that comes to mind when think of a pen?  Before I am offended by “da mayor” I would have to be offended by the reference to the term smoking pens. In a city and state  that was founded by a group of people so seriously reviled for their own beliefs in years past, you would think they would be among the first to take a “live and let live” attitude about the behavior and choices of others. Clearly the past lessons learned about intolerance by the Mormons must now have been forgotten.

Only 88 airports nationwide is hardly a mandate to make one’s own airport smoke free. Furthermore if these “smoking kiosks” are eliminated it will only cause people to find other places to smoke. Delta Airlines is correct in standing behind the rights of the smokers.  Perhaps they have taken note that incidence of “air rage” only became prevalent AFTER smoking was banned on aircraft. It should also be noted that since the ban, they no longer use fresh air to ventilate the planes; instead, they just run the air through a filtrations system which in an enclosed environment further exacerbates the problem.

Mayor Anderson’s pompous arrogance in stating that the ban will help smokers to “break the habit” is outrageous. It is not his job to be neither a social engineer nor the arbiter of personal choices. I do know however, that as long as Salt Lake City and Utah continue down this Draconian path of heavy handed intolerance, I will avoid their state in very way possible. I will not travel to it, I will not travel thru it, and I will not support my company scheduling a convention there.

BANS ARE BAD! Read it again, BANS ARE BAD! Banning blacks from white facilities---BAD! Banning books---BAD! Banning Beer---Bad! If the people of Utah agree that these bans are bad, then they must also agree that banning smoking is also BAD! I would certainly hope at this juncture they are starting to realize that any action, that would favor a smoking ban of any type, will only create far more harm than good. IN all fairness I should note their may be one kind of good ban. That of course would be banning Mayor Anderson from further political office at the next election.

As for your post #21 Conservative Truth (link)

I said 5 minutes for the 737 and my post #46 show higher exchange rates for other planes. Than you for providing a link that supports my #21.

(from your link)This system results in a total air exchange within 2-3 minutes (20-30 times each hour).

I really don't see why disabled people should be taking up space which could be used for the benefit of all.
I propose that if any person can't walk properly, or talk properly, or hear or see, that person is a drain on society.

The easy way to dispose of these people is to increase the tax on their medications so they can no longer buy them.

I really don't like to look at them, and what I like is the most important thing in the world.

Incidently, the figures I gave were for fully loaded Boeing 737, with differing years of manufacture.

Now, you can either read the document, or you can continue to call white as black. Your comments are in error. Furthermore, the article goes on to state that the ASHAE recommendations are not sufficient to prevent disease transmission, such as SARS. Confirmed cases of disease transmission from recirculated air in passengers up to 13 rows away have occurred.

If you don't believe me, read the article. Meanwhile, how about posting something that supports your allegation, as I asked you for, above?

Otherwise, you might want to go to some other thread on some other topic. You no longer have credibility here.

Any airline that is NOT providing the minimum required fresh air is subject to prosecution under CFR 14 Section 25.831.

Do Airlines Spread SARS?

I suggest that everyone who must fly get one of those little masks that the Japanese wear. When people on your flight ask why you are wearing it, tell them, “I don’t want to breathe the recycled air the airline uses in the cabin.” Better yet, hang a sign around your neck for those passengers who are too polite to ask you why you’re wearing a mask: “Danger! This airline recycles air instead of providing safe, fresh air for us to breathe.”

"Your wife is obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer... You picked her. My condolences."

Actually she was a very good choice. That statement alone should tell everyone that you have no problems hopping on the Internet and making statements about things you know absolutely nothing about.

You have serious credibility issues, more than you know. ;-)

I hate to tell you this, but the air goes right through the mask.

Furthermore, for a plane idling and not ventilating, the CO2 buildup takes from 2-4 minutes from zero ppm to over 1000 ppm, where the passenger is aware of the decreased air quality.

Lot less than 5 minutes. Further information in the conclusion tells us that the HEPA filters used for re-circulating the air are ineffective, because the testing is done by the manufacturer under ideal single-contaminant puff conditions, not the multiple bacteria, viral, and inorganic load commonly found on an aircraft. Periods of ascent and descent are also periods of poor air quality.

I've been waiting for that.

That was a bullshit statement, Publius, and you know it!

A fitted HEPA mask on a passenger would be a lot more effective than the airline HEPA filter, as the article I gave you a link to states.

Meanwhile you haven't given us a link to anything except your own posts.

Thanks for your research.
Thanks a lot!
I had forgotten totally about that pipe.
I had forgotten
that at one time
you could not be a scientist
if you did not smoke a pipe.
I wonder
if any new Einstein will come
out from our politically correct smoke free zone.

Not supported by the linked source:

-----------------------------------------------------

Cc,CO2=0.00037+(7.7×10−6)(0.658/0.0042)=0.00158=1,580 ppm.

Other ventilation rates will result in higher or lower CO2 concentrations according to Equation 2–3. It should be pointed out that CO2, at the concentrations present in this example is not noticeable by the occupants, nor is it considered hazardous.

I gave you a reference to my #46 which provides the link to design exchange rates. I provide the Federal Regulations Number for the minimum exchange rates.

increase the tax on their medications

Lets not overlook the revenue generating via increased taxes on their handicapped license plates say by a minimum of $200.....

I would also support a "handicapped tax" on all oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, canes and walkers.......

How about mandatory annual driving tests being given to everyone who has a handicapped plate or mirror tag at the expense of those taking the test. Mandatory annual government exams at their expense to determine continued driving disability eligibility......

And steep fines for those individuals who fail to report for their annual examinations, steep fines for those individuals who continue to use the "disabled" mirror tags, and steep fines for any disabled individual I catch parking in one of my spots.........

Read the conclusion.

Incidently, the pdf article I sourced was quite specific, and you didn't read it. Nor, evidently, did you read my posts.

So, until you face facts, please refrain from RECIRCULATING STALE posts as the CONTAMINATION LEVEL of bad air is GETTING TOO HIGH.
