Protest Interrupts Local Broadcasts

1/6/2005 6:45 PM (WROC-TV Rochester) CBS

The Thursday afternoon edition of News 8 Now At Noon was interrupted by protestors. The interruption occured as reporter Elizabeth Harness broadcast live the story of the Highland Hospital power outage.

The group claimed to be a local media watchdog organization. But the group may be nothing more than pranksters intent on interrupting local news coverage.

Three men in costume -- one wearing a flesh-toned body suit, labeled "invisible suit," interrupted Harness's live report.

The man in the invisible suit jumped up and down behind the reporter, while two others approached Harness, pushing her into the side of the broadcast truck, shouting at her "What's the mood at the hospital today?"

The public did not see the assault, as video of the power outage was rolling by that time.

Minutes later, hospital security and the Rochester Police Department detained the three men for several hours. All are from Rochester, and claim to be part of a non-violent media watchdog group.

However, when confronted and asked to give more about their organization, and why they wear masks, they provided no answers.

According to police, the trio asked for representation by the American Civil Liberties Union. The A.C.L.U. said it wanted nothing to do with them.

The trio remained unclear as to what sort of gripe they have with local media.

Sheesh if the ACLU will support NAMBLA but wants nothing to do with these guys they must be low lifes.

Or conservatives. Or maybe right-leaning libertarians. Either way it doesn't advance the socialist state to throw a wrench in the MSM machine, does it?

how did they determine there was "no objective" when the NewBreakers web site states possible objectives.

Well, in their "defense," but actually even worse for them, is the line:

"However, when confronted and asked to give more about their organization, and why they wear masks, they provided no answers."

This clearly demonstrates that they didn't want an answer. Any good investigation could have seen the information on the NEWSBREAKERS website, but they wanted to get a non-answer. My (pure speculation) guess is that they asked at a time and in a manner such that the NEWSBREAKERS were unable to answer freely. Or asked in a way to prevent a good answer.

Picture, for example, while police are there, the reporter asking:

"Why did you assault the news team?"

Answer: "We didn't assault the news team."

Gee, they didn't answer what their motives were.

Perhaps you know them personally?

The CBS affiliate calls these individuals in less than flattering descriptive terms..you know or just "suppose" on the psychological normalcy of these NEWSBREAKERS?

. I think they just might develop a following.
just my humble pie opinion..

I suspect they are not a protest group, but rather a comedy troupe (trying to make it big).

Oh, I should have known! It's in Rottenchester, NY, the single worst place to live on the planet, except maybe Buffalo. After 14 years of living (?) in that rotten hole in the bluest of states (they elected Hitlery! Gag!) and attempting to understand the liberals that infest the place, I gave up and left. Best move in a long time!

The sad reality is minds have been programmed to not "think" past the words delivered by our entrusted Old media. Viewer: "It's the news by smiling anchors on NBC, CBS, ABC, etc., not promoted as commentary; so it has to be true". This is why credibility of the Old news media is now on the line.

As you see on this thread and others, there are individuals that find no need for inquiry past what was reported in the main story...even after I did the homework, facts were overlooked. However we can always fall back on -Reader: "My dog ate my homework!"

I could jump to the recent Staples story, getting off subject a little here, with Sinclair Broadcasting..liberal watchdog group,MediaMatters. Sinclair said yesterday, "it was pleased that Staples would continue advertising and threatened to sue "any organization or any individual" that engages in such "trade defamation."

Media Matters reported Staples was pulling their advertising for Sinclair's conservative commentary . Freepers jumped on the band wagon ready to boycott Staples even when a company spokesman had denied the story and deemed it a lie by this media company....just that kind of quick assumption of fact by either side cannot be deemed credible anymore, sadly to say. We need to remain "free thinkers", investigate, double check allegations, hear from both sides before jumping to our own conclusion.

What's great about FR is that most Freepers offer facts with sources to support or challenge a story. That is what makes us better than them! We need to keep our minds open, for a closed mind breeds prejudice.

The video is extremely clear that she is not assaulted. She actually sticks out her hand at him, after he comes up next to her with the microphone. He doesn't touch her.

They lied about it. Flat-out lied.

...the "scumbags" you refer to are they these "pranksters" so described by the media..or the CBS affiliate reporters that ran a partially alleged false story?

I am sure the scumbags you refer to are actually robbers, rapists, child molestors and murderers that live in and around your city..You would actually cause violence toward a person in a funny suit holding a microphone that just wanted to interview the interviewer? Seems the microphone was shoved into the face of the "shover" for a change. ;)

You are uninformed about the Constitutional right of dim bulb local news reporters to have a clear background?

Just some in-your-face weirdness

Thought that was the reporters job?
Scenario: "Ma'am (microphone shoved into your face).."how did you feel when you were told your husband just fell 34 stories to his death".

I'll take weird anyday over sick!
