I have an Elvis story! I have an Elvis story!
When I got married in 1998, DH asked me where I wanted to go for our honeymoon. I jokingly said, "Graceland." He was appalled, to say the least, as he had always considered Elvis to be yucky, while I had always had a fondness in my heart for the King! It just doesn't get better than "King Creole."
SO -- we ended up in a resort in Florida, but on our way home, our plane was bumped, and we transferred in Memphis. We volunteered to take a different plane due to overbooking, and found ourselves in Memphis with eight hours to kill.
Guess where WE went???
I have a picture of us standing in front of Elvis' grave. And I am proud to say that DH, while not entirely impressed with Elvis' decor, has a bit more than just a tolerant attitude toward his music -- he actually likes some of it.
Viva Las Vegas!
God bless each of you who are serving us so well! Prayers, prayers, prayers!

I had no idea "Always on My Mind" was an Elvis tune. Now I like it even more! Thanks to the Canteen DJ's...

Elvis took basic training at Ft Hood TX Company D, 2nd Medium Tank Bn, 2nd Armored Division in 1959. I took basic there 11 months later. The reason I mention this is many of the DI's and support staff during Elvis' training were still there and to a man stated that Elvis was a true American/soldier. He was one of their best trainees and never tried to shirk his duties (KP, fire guard, etc). This says a lot about the man that should be told.

Elvis was an artist and a patriot

I was stationed at Fort Hood while Elvis was in basic training.
I never saw him but he had rented a house in Killeen.
At any time day or night the house was surrounded by women.
My dumb sister had embroidered some towels for me for Christmas.
It came out that Elvis had given the people in his barracks gift towels.
Even at 18 or 19 I was a dirty old man.
I told the girls the towels were gifts from Elvis.
I traded the towels.
Beware if ebay has a towel from Elvis on sell.
It might have been one of mine.
