WASHINGTON, Jan. 6, 2005 -- Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit arrested nine suspected insurgents during operations in western Anbar province today.

One of those arrested was part of a group seen setting up an improvised rocket system aimed at a U.S. Marine camp nearby. Marines observed seven individuals emplacing the system near their position and requested close-air support.

Three 107 mm rockets, with time-delay devices prepped for launch toward Camp Korean Village, were destroyed.

In detaining the one individual at a housing complex nearby, the Marines discovered four AK-47 assault rifles and 2,460 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.

Over the past 48 hours, elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted two other operations that netted the other eight suspected insurgents in western Anbar.

In Sadah, Marines and U.S. soldiers conducting cordon and knock operations detained six suspected insurgents involved in improvised explosive device and mine-emplacing activities.

Two more individuals were detained after Marines conducted a limited-scale raid in Hit to disrupt insurgent activities there.

The ambush these murderous vermin tried to set was foiled by alert Marines and it was they who got snared in their own cowardly plot. Thank You, God, and great work, Marines.

Dead men tell no tales. Live ones tend to sing like a canary.

I admire the Marines' forebearance. I'd have been tempted to beat the snot out of them.

Arrested?

This is disappointing. Iraqi civs are allowed to possess
an AK or SKS, and maybe a handgun, but I would have
expected the ROE to classify anyone seen with any other
type of weapon (including an AK with a scope) as a

* target *

Capturing these perps only takes them out of action for
a while, and is easily more trouble than it's worth.

The word needs to spread in the cutthroat cult that
just being around an RPG, IED, rocket launcher or other
prohibited ordnance, will get you incoming.

Maybe I am missing something. But do Marines at war arrest the enemy or capture them?

Kill the sonofabitchin' enemy!! The Democraps (and RINOs) keep talking in Law Enforcement terms, it's time to take them to task on this issue. That sort of stuff can cause lives when having to switch from LE mode to military combat. Get real!

Chances are they were detained.... tortur....err.... interrrogated.... and then locked up for the rest of their lives. ;)

Actually Iraqi law now gives the death penalty for these arrested insurgents. :)

Especially if they waive pink Victoria Panties in front of them or worse yet, play Snoop Dog's most recent CD at full volume. Only thing worse would be to serve them a spam sandwich on a bagel.
