EDINA, Minn. - H. David Dalquist, creator of the aluminum Bundt pan, the top-selling cake pan in the world, has died at 86.
Dalquist, who died at his home Sunday of heart failure, founded St. Louis Park-based Nordic Ware, which has sold more than 50 million Bundt pans.
Dalquist designed the pan in 1950 at the request of members of the Minneapolis Chapter of the Hadassah Society. They had old ceramic cake pans of somewhat similar designs but wanted an aluminum pan. Dalquist created a new shape and added regular folds to make it easier to cut the cake.
The women from the society called the pans "bund pans" because "bund" is German for a gathering of people. Dalquist added a "t" to the end of "bund" and trademarked the name. So all Bundt pans and Bundt cakes stem from Dalquist.

I've seen those mini Bundt pans--they are so cute. Here's the recipe:
Bacardi Chocolate Fudge Rum Cake
1 package chocolate cake mix
12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 small chocolate instant pudding, divided
1 cup Bacardi black rum
1 cup raspberry preserves - (10-12 oz)
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup oil
1 ounce vanilla (white chocolate) baking bar square
4 eggs
Preheat oven to 350F.
Combine cake mix, pudding, eggs, 1/2 cup of the rum, water and oil in a large mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat at low speed until moistened. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate pieces. Pour batter into a greased 12-cup Bundt pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes until cake tests done. Cool in pan for 15 minutes.
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack. Heat raspberry preserves and remaining 1/2 cup of rum. Strain through a sieve to remove seeds or make it easy on yourself and buy seedless raspberry preserves.
Place cake on a serving platter. Prick surface of cake with a fork. Brush reaspberry glaze evenly over cake, allowing cake to absorb glaze. Repeat until all the glaze has been absorbed. Combine remaining 1 cup of chocolate pieces and shortening.
Microwave on high for 1 minute or until melted. Stir until smooth.
Spoon chocolate icing over cake. Let stand 10 minutes. Combine vanilla baking bar and 1 tsp. water. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until melted. Drizzle on top of icing.

Mo, see post #37...
FOFL .. Mine too
May his soul rest in peace.
I just baked a 7-up pound cake in a Bundt cake pan this weekend.
It's better if you bake them in a slow oven about 325 degrees.
I was thinking the same thing.
Bundt, bunnndddttt, tt tt BUNDT.
Boonnt?
Oh, it's just a cake for crying out loud :-)
I love the lady that plays the Greek mom, What's her name? She is soo cool.
Pampered Chef makes a stone bundt cake pan. You can actually make a bundt cake in the microwave in 15 minutes. I will get the recipe and post it later. Can't find it right now.
If there is a seed from which culture might grow it is this sort of small accomplishment that stands testament to almost a century of an otherwise undisturbed field, untrampled.
Who makes it?
Michael Faraday was born September 22nd. 1791, does that count?
They used to sell bundt cake mixes in the stores. I don't see them around at all now.
Rest in peace Mr. Dahlquist, and thank you.
This bundt's for you.
Just being a smart-ass, of course. I wouldn't go near an oven, especially when I can get ready made cakes at the store and pizza can be delivered right to the door.
Even had a pizzeria for a while. Found out what happens when you leave something in a 600 degree oven for about a half-hour too long.
Chocolate cake mix? Instant pudding? It's a chemical cocktail! Oh the humanity!
Why bake if it's fake? Haha... guess that's what the rum is for. ;-)
Did he also create the Bedt pan?
Mo's cakes are famous.
If we're really unlucky, she'll post a picture...
Noooooooooooooooo
OK, I'm drooling! Sounds like dessert tonight, to me. It's a snowy day; great day for baking!
The mini-pans are made by Nordic-Ware, same as the big pans. I got mine at the King Arthur Flour Store up in Vermont, but I've seen them at kitchen stores, too. Saw one at Home Goods a few weeks ago, a couple of weeks after I got mine.
