Rohnert Park -- Police have identified a woman who was apparently wearing a live boa constrictor as a fashion accessory when she was killed in a single-car crash early New Year's Day.
Rohnert Park police Sgt. Art Sweeney said Margaret Ann Walters, 29, of Cotati, died when her Saab slammed broadside into a grove of redwood trees in the center divide of the Rohnert Park Expressway near Rancho Verde Mobile Home Park.
Sweeney said an open container of alcohol was found in the vehicle and toxicology tests to determine if Walters was intoxicated are pending. He said Walters was returning home from a New Year's Eve party when the accident occurred at 3:10 a.m.
Rohnert Park public safety Sgt. Wulff Reinhold, who responded to the crash, got a surprise when he reached through a broken window of the car to check for a pulse on Walters' neck, Sweeney said.
Reinhold noticed Walters' clothing "rustled" and discovered a 3-feet-long boa constrictor on her person.
Sweeney said an autopsy ruled out the possibility that the snake strangled Walters.

Tell me about it!! I have a healthy respect for WM's!! I've only encountered 2 in the wild and both times it was me that backed off! Dang, I had a little bitty one come after me like it thought it could tear me limb from limb. I've dealt with a lot of wild critters but that little snake was about the feistiest and nastiest creature I've ever run across!

Name one venemous NA snake that won't attack when provoked? One or two will attack even when they aren't provoked
What I said was.."the vast majority won't attack." I did not say none of them would.

Yes. Ummm...I used the term "phobia". Did you think I didn't know what that meant?
OH, PHOBIA, I thought you said Phoebe. See, I used to date a girl named Phoebe and she could do this thing with a snake that....oh never mind.

I could use one of those.
Don't you all have the snake on a pole as a branch insignia? You better post that, too.

Who hasn't spent at least one New Year's Eve driving around all blitzed at 3:00AM with a bottle of booze in their hand with a snake around their neck? and what led you to believe it was around her neck?

But... the snake wasn't wearing a seat belt, and he lived.
Wonder if she was drunk, or the snake was the 'nipper'.
Maybe he grabbed the wheel, and caused the accident.

Maybe the snake was squeezing her neck a little too tight and she was trying to remove it when she lost control of the car.

If the snake wasn't safely buckled in, PETA should know about this.................hee hee hee

I have a let live attitude about snakes, if I don't see it , I let it live. Cats, traps and ,if needed,D-Con, take care of the mice better around my buildings.
Have lost a nearly fullgrown heifer to a snake (that's a young cow to you city folks) and a large pet dog died protecting her pups from another.
My personal view is that anyone who has "pet" reptiles is someone who is NOT going to be my friend. (ANd they need serious counseling as well.) Next thing you know they might bring home a socialist.
