Trio of storm systems could have devastating impact on U.S.

Knight Ridder Newspapers

Moisture-laden storms from the north, west and south are likely to converge on much of America over the next several days in what could be a once-in-a-generation onslaught, meteorologists forecast Tuesday.

If the gloomy computer models at the U.S. Climate Prediction Center are right, we'll see this terrible trio:

All three are likely to meet somewhere in the nation's midsection and cause even more problems, sparing only areas east of the Appalachian Mountains.

Glad I live in Charlotte!!!

No. The house is on high ground, but surrounded by flood water---just can't get in or out until water recedes. I'm stocked up.

These storms usually come in over the Cape Mendocino/Humboldt county area of North West California but this year it's the So/Cal area. One of these pineapple connections hit here in 1964 and did major damage. Life Magazine did a big spread on it including a cover photo of what was the town of Pepperwood.

It's already been reconsidered.....Have two offers to get dad to Dr appointments or cancel them......Depending on weather there....

But you are absolutely correct....and I get "mothered" even by dad.

Since this is the 6th time since 1998, I'm getting to be an old hand at this. Thanks.

An unnamed warm, moist storm system from the Gulf of Mexico drenching the already saturated Ohio, Tennessee and Mississippi valleys. Expect heavy river flooding and springlike tornadoes

I've got a name for it: "The Illegal Alien Express".

Bad weather doesn't stop at the Rio Grande Express?

Raining on Cities American Storms Won't Express?

All three are likely to meet somewhere in the nation's midsection and cause even more problems, sparing only areas east of the Appalachian Mountains.

"You're talking a two- or three-times-a-century type of thing," said prediction center senior meteorologist James Wagner, who's been forecasting storms since 1965. "It's a pattern that has a little bit of everything."

Bush's fault - bump!

A lot. Unfortunately, it doesn't help 'em much when they start dabbling in their little "end of the world" scenarios. Just like me: I know a lot about statistics, but it doesn't help me win the lottery.

Now where's my bookie? I'll bet against the end of the world every time! :-)

I'm loving the no snow situation. But I gotta say, a big snowstorm can be really fun. It sort of brings people together and gives a small town feeling.

This is Minnesota though, and we have a few months left. I'm sure something will hit sooner or later.

Strange, but true. At the first one, the authorities were widely quoted as saying this is such a rare event...termed it a "hundred-year flood...and that it was extremely unlikely to happen again. New and massive dikes were built around the nearby town (which was completely isolated for one week in the '98 flood) to prevent the waters from Wills creek to encroach on the town. And, for 6 years, it didn't flood. But, come this past summer and fall...

FEMA has been here since this summer and have what appears to be a permanent office set-up.
