Savage Inks Clear Channel Deal

Nationally syndicated radio show host Michael Savage is smiling - thanks to Clear Channel.

The mega-sized radio company has signed Savage to a mulit-million dollar, multi-year contract to continue as the afternoon drive time host at its San Francisco Bay area station KNEW (910 AM).

Savage is already the #1 most listened-to host during the 3 to 6 p.m. drive time slot.

The announcement of Savage's deal will be made in the next few days, but it is already causing ripples in the hot San Francisco market.

The terms of the deal won't be disclosed, but will make Savage among the highest paid media personalities in the fourth largest market in the nation.

Savage's KNEW show serves as the anchor for his national "Savage Nation" show, syndicated by Talk Radio Network.

Savage's syndicated daily program is the nation's fourth most listened-to show, heard on more than 300 stations, including WOR in New York and KLIF in Dallas.

Yea. Maybe he'll be able to afford proper anti-psychotic prescriptions with this new deal.

Michael Savage = Susan Estrich's evil twin. Same grating voice, same bitter attitude.

Savage consistently makes conservatives look bad, but alternatly cricitizing them and then pretending to be one.

A couple of estrogen tablets for Savage and they'd be indistinguishable.

The term "for entertainment purposes only" greatly applies to Savage. I tuned out on him the first time because he was a Bush Basher. He stopped for the election and bashed Kerry instead. Now he is back to Bush bashing again.

YAAAAAWN.

Too bad, he had potential but he is too kooky to take seriously.

He is truly a great American figure. His PHD and multiple published books set him from Rush. Besided he doesn't eat Republicrat soup all the time.

He occasionally (OK often) lets his liberal leanings cloud his "independent conservative" persona.

He talks about his little poodle as his most loved thing in the world. Tells me he's a frustrated gay man.

His talks about religion are as incoherent as any Unitarian space cadet.

I'll take Michael (Weiner) Savage talking border, language, culture any day of the week over "Rusty Sharpe" Limbaugh talking golf, football, and South Florida weather. Flame away.

"he doesn't eat Republicrat soup all the time."

And he doesn't eat conservative soup most of the time. His only consistency is his manic depressive rantings.

Michael Savage is a broken record who appears to be mentally unstable. There is a good reason why he got bumped off of WABC radio in NY. His ratings were in the toilet.

I know many freepers and lurkers take every opportunity to enlighten us to what a loudmouth blowhard they think Michael Savage is, but every once in a while he needs to be defended. Savage is several orders of magnitude more intellectual than other radio hosts. He's got a wry sense of humor his regular listeners "get", and he's observant of the little things in life that make this such a strange journey. Savage wraps his message up with a healthy dose of realistic cynicism that our upsidedown times scream for. If you don't like Savage, turn him off, but please don't pee in the punchbowl of those who appreciate and enjoy his genius.

Dare I say "dittoes" to that. Somebody on FR gets it.

He can rant about his PhD in herbal mixology all he wants, but he makes the vapid Sean Hannity look like a deep intellectual. He's like Howard Stern with different neuroses. UN-listenable after ten minutes.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't necessarily always agree with Savage, but I like the fact that he isn't afraid to take on an issue. Additionally, I do like Rush, but it's kinda in the same way I like MTV. I used to love MTV when it played music. Not that cool anymore. I used to love Rush when he talked politics, not nearly as cool now that he has "branched out" in his topic selection.

He is truly a great American figure.

Oh, please. Get a grip. If Savage is a "great American figure," what does that make George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, TR, FDR, Ronald Reagan and, yes, George W. Bush? What about figures like Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, who only did a little thing like save the world from Nazi horror?
