A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 1.3.05

President and Mrs. Bush, former Presidents Bush and Clinton visited the embassies of the nations hardest hit by the Asian quake and tsunami: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. He asked both (interestingly, Carter didn't make the list) to lead a nationwide charitable fund-raising effort for victims of the Asian tsunamis, through private contributions, non-governmental and international organizations. The White House's Freedom Corps, which helps facilitate volunteer efforts around the country, will assist the two former presidents in soliciting private contributions.

The president hosted a reception for new members elected to Congress and their spouses in the East Room; the swearing-in is tomorrow.

Alert: today's thread is laced with photos of The Impeached One. Other than that, enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!

Was it recent?

If so, I think I know which one you're referring to, and I don't have it.

I'll take a look, but maybe you could give a few more details?

At least you will have it for the inauguration

You see very far from across that ocean, snugs. That is one of the main reasons I decided to go for it even if only for three months. It has been horrible, missing so many events where President Bush, the twins, 41 and Bar, etc., have been these past four years. Not to mention coverage of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, presidential speeches, Thanksgiving in Baghdad, etc. Sigh. I have gotten some of this, but the reception was very poor. And not having Fox to balance out the "news" trash is difficult!

Why did Bush appoint Clinton?

I'm sure we all have our own opinions about this. :-)
But mine is that W really doesn't trust the UN (as he shouldn't), and ol' Billy was off in London mouthing off about how the US wasn't doing enough.

So the "dummy" got billy to agree to raise money for charities (notice that this money isn't going through the UN. It's going to places like the Red Cross, CARE, and religious charities working in the area).
That keeps the money out of the UN and shuts ol' Billy up. And it also gets much needed relief to the people who need it.

I was impressed with the way Clinton spoke as well. I was shocked when he told of the questions GWB asked about the mountains and aquifers.

He seemed impressed that Bush would think of thing like that.

Here's something presidential in the meantime.

If it is a recent one and was posted on the dose I probably have it as I must have over 2000 GWB photos but I do not have anyway of posting photos from my hard drive. I can email to someone if you give me more details and I will go digging.

The debauched one has been delivered a severe blow by the wiser and savvier current President

Re sucker punch -- Poppy or W? That is hilarious if it happened.

I recall from prior events where the three were together that Poppy has had a difficult time restraining his disgust when in Bubba's presence. He seems to have been in that zone today.

. . . and anyone else I may have forgotten . . .

Hello all and Happy Monday! Hope you're all well. I'm getting ready for a snowstorm; last weather said 6-12" of snow starting tomorrow.

Just stopping in before making some crab salad for the kids for supper.

Is it wrong to enjoy these photos? I wasn't able to watch the Press conference but it amuses me to witness Clinton in back of G.W., while the current President commands the stage.

Our Prez can take the spotlight or leave it. Clinton can't.

It's always hardest to go back to work after you've had a few days off.. especially when those days are so busy you cannot enjoy as much as you like.
I think your points about Clinton are right, but I also believe he came out last week saying how he would do things, so Bush put him in a spot and asked him to co chair this. Clinton can't say no or he'll appear partisan and as someone who just likes to talk. He was pushed in a corner and now he has to cheer the efforts of Bush and America, because he is now part of that team.
