BUSH BASH BOOK BURSTS IN TIME FOR INAUGURAL

Christine Todd Whitman, the former New Jersey governor who was President Bush's first administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, has written a book that touts the importance of moderates to the future of the Republican Party and flays Bush and his team for ignoring the country's middle.

Whitman charges on Page 3 that Bush's three-percentage-point margin in the popular vote is the lowest of any incumbent president ever to win reelection, the WASHINGTON POST reports in coming editions, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

IT'S MY PARTY TOO: THE BATTLE FOR THE HEART OF THE GOP AND THE FUTURE OF AMERICA streets during inauguration week, insuring heavy media coverage

"The numbers show that while the president certainly did energize his political base, the red state/blue state map changed barely at all, suggesting that he had missed an opportunity to significantly broaden his support in the most populous areas of the country," Whitman writes. "The Karl Rove strategy to focus so rigorously on the narrow conservative base won the day, but we must ask at what price to governing and at what risk to the future of the party."

Whitman details her many scars and frustrations in dealing with what she calls the "antiregulatory lobbyists and extreme antigovernment ideologues" that she suggests hold too much sway over the Republican party.

Bush seems like a liberal to me.

Then you're a fool.

What about him is conservative?

You're not worth the effort of writing up the long list.

Bush seems like a liberal to me. What about him is conservative? He cut some taxes but you also need to cut spending to be conservative so that cancels the tax cutting out.

Maybe increasing the federal role in education is conservative.

Excellent! This is very encouraging!
As far as the used-up-and-discarded Whitman, no, the GOP is not your party. Your party is called the Democrat Party USA and I'm sure they would love your help pushing Eurpean-style secular socialism down America's throat. You better hurry though, Christie - - your new party is shrinking like crazy.
Now just go away.

If this is her first step down that path then she is an idiot - and everyone will know because she bothered to put it in a book. This type of talk will really energize the Republican base - energize them against her.

Shades of Paul O'Neill. I guess it's too much to expect that she leave w/some degree of grace. Their books reveal more about THEM than they realize.

At a time of the most bloated federal government in the history of the world, I think those charges are hardly credible.

That is the real scandal isn't it? How the true fiscal conservative policies have been squashed. If I may goa little more - the social conserv agenda has been used to silence the fiscal conservs and libertarian conservs.

"The Lib-Dems are killing themselves (politically) it's up to us to take out the Rinos. They are as big as enemy as the Dems. A good start would be McCain, then work our way down."

She was out of step with Bush's administration from Day 1. She thought he put her there for her brains, when she was put there to follow his direction, and she never did. He had no choice but to slap her down, then can her.

BTW, you're right, RINOs are more dangerous and can do us more damage than Democrats. They're traitors within our own house, --the enemy within.

Bye Christie! Wish I could say "Bye John McCain" too.

Amazing that Bush has managed to hack off so many people and yet wins reelection and more votes than any President in history.

We hear from the left that Bush is a right wing nut.

We hear from the liberal Republicans that Bush is a right wing nut.

We hear from the extreme right that Bush is a liberal

We hear from kooks throughout the political spectrum that Bush is everything from the anti-Christ to the man who is going to cause the demise of American society.

If the victory Nov. 2nd was so insignificant, please explain to me why the Liberals turned ashen during election night coverage? Please explain why Katie wore black? Please explain why Moore took to his bed to eat for three days. Please explain why it is the Dems in this great "soul search". Please explain why it is the Dems with a new Senate minority leader because their former leader lost his election bid. Please explain why the DNC Chair is being kicked out with talk of "moving center (right)". Please explain why this insignificant victory has placed us with stronger majorities in the House and Senate. Please explain why this insignificant victory safely guided the president to re-election, upped his votes by over ten million, provided the first majority since his father's first term win, and managed for the first time in over half a century to have a sitting president steer his party to joint victory with gains in both House and Congress. Please explain how we gained electorally over 2000. Please explain how Bush & Rove and Co. were practically the only ones that maintained consistently what their margin of victory would be, and met and exceeded it? Could it be they actually knew what they were doing? Could it be their goal was not a popular landslide but rather a safe presidential win and a more substantial win in areas needed most? Like the Senate?

Know what Christine? Shove the advice. NO ONE in modern day politics has been a better party builder than THIS President. If you think you can do better, go back to New Jersey and prove it. Otherwise I must conclude you are blowing smoke and hoping we are foolish enough to take your advice.

This president is not a hard right winger. Nor is he a Liberal. In actuality he governs the middle line on most issues which tends to drive both party hard liners up the wall. Personally, I am of belief he is a conservative that looks at issues pragmatically and is willing to compromise to get something rather than nothing. Meaning, he'll spend money on education reform, but require standards be met to receive that funding. Spending=Liberal. Accountability=Conservative.

Agree or not with his decisions, he is neither Liberal nor extreme right winger. But, at least Reps and Dems can be content to know they have something in common. Anyone that isn't in agreement 100% is obviously a representative of the other side.
