As I wrote the Hot Springs Sentine Record in reply to their front-page celebration ....

Congratulations Hot Springs and the Sentinel-Record for AGAIN celebrating an illegitimate birth to unmarried people glorifying and encouraging the lack of morals and ethics. And we wonder WHY we are turning into a country of immoral, unethical, irreverent sloths.

That's a small baby. I wonder if he was premature.

Are you sure the mother isn't just using her maiden name.

It's a sad state when the first thing I thought was "Well at least she knows who the father is."

It's really sad. People act like this is nothing anymore-like it's just another bodily function. They give more thought to what they are going to order at McDonald's than planning children.

It would be nice to read the whole article, but since you have to register.

Does it say in the article that they were unmarried? I know lots of people who no longer take there husband's name...some for personal reasons (I do it to honor my deceased father) and some for business purposes.

I agree with you. It's probably a real good chance the parents weren't married BUT in this day and age a lot of women are opting to keep their maiden name. In this case, the baby was given the father's name so there is a chance they were married.

And it is a sad state of affairs.

I don't think you meant to reply to me. That being said, it's certainly possible she was using her maiden name. Not that many women do, though, far as I can tell. When they do, the baby usually ends up with a hyphenated last name, not their father's name alone.

Did the article say that the couple wasn't married?

That's what I do! I keep my name to honor my Father.

Wait a minute--the kid has the Father's last name. By definition he's not a bastard.

And in a many cases, the middle name of the mother sounds like a last name. As in my married niece's birth announcement in the paper which read "Katie McKee and Gerald Jones". It can be confusing as newspapers do not print Mr and Mrs.

I hope the baby's name was falsified, otherwise he faces life as being illegitimate. All of God's innocent children are legitimate. It is the unmarried parents who should have to bare the brunt of their sin, not the dear baby.

This is as disturbing as seeing announcements of same sex marriages in the newspapers along with those of heterosexuals, if not moreso.

Actually that WAS the entire article!

And MY first thought was "At least this time they have the father's name listed!"

Last year it was a single mother with no mention of a sperm donor, and the year before also (if I remeber correctly).

Not all babies that are born low birth weight are premature. My daughter was full-term and weighed 3lb 13oz. She is what the doctors call an "intrauterine retardation" baby. This happened because I had pre-eclampsia and underlying kidney disease. Luckily my daughter suffered no adverse affects and is happy and healthy.

The correct term would have been a sentence ...

unmarried female and male of suspected low morals, lack of medical and biological knowledge, and birth control methods, have produced a CHILD that unfortunately will most likely not have a home with the ORIGINAL Mother and Father and will most likely be mentally and morally deranged or deficient and rely on the government nanny-state to provide sustenance and a "warm fuzzy feeling" courtesy of drugs.

Unfortunate, but true. That is my objection.

If the mother is "using her maiden name", why is she doing it in a setting that has nothing to do with a profession? After all, the justification used by many women who elect to keep their "maiden" name is that it is for professional reasons. A childbirth, however is a personal family event. By far the most likely explanation is that she is either NOT married [in which case she has a morals issue] or that she refuses her husbands name [in which case she has an attitude problem].
