Hollywood picks Che over Christ Posted: January 1, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is nationally headquartered in Manhattan, but has an influence nationwide.
This is due primarily to this organization's president, a marvelously articulate attorney named William Donohue.
I often describe him as "the man who is absolutely incapable of writing a dull press release."
As the latest example of this notable art, Bill Donohue notes:
"Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ' was one of 49 films deemed eligible for a foreign-language Golden Globe. But it was not among the nominees voted on today by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
"Mel Gibson releases the most significant blockbuster movie of the year, but it's not good enough to make the cut for a Golden Globe. That's because his film promotes Christianity, and the Hollywood crowd will have none of it. The only movies they like to make about Christianity these days are ones that demean it.
"But one movie that did make the cut in the foreign-language category was 'The Motorcycle Diaries,' a film that shamelessly lies about the notorious Cuban communist Che Guevara. According to the Christian Science Monitor, the movie 'paints Guevara as an amiable guy who doesn't appear to have an aggressive bone in his body.' A.O. Scott of the New York Times concurs, saying the film views Guevara 'as a quasi-holy figure' who turns away 'from the corruptions of the world toward a higher purpose.' This may explain why Jack Mathews of the New York Daily News says that director Walter Salles 'comes close at times to posing Guevara as a Christ figure.'
"In other words, because Mel gives us a faithful rendition of Christ's Passion, he is shunned by the Hollywood elite for doing so. But a movie that whitewashes a ruthless tyrant making him into a Christ-like figure gets the nod. The message that is being sent is unmistakable: There is no room for Jesus in Hollywood's inn, but there is plenty of room for communist thugs portrayed in a Christ-like manner."
Look at a list of Best Picture winners. With the notable exception of American Beauty, they are ALL fairly conservative. Return of the King, Chicago , A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator...Forrest Gump, Braveheart...
This is the influence of media in over 50 countries, through over 1500 journalists, and as they influence foriegn audiences on movie being released around the world, I call that important.
Many eyes will see and many ears would hear about Jesus Christ and his sacrifice as Mel Gibson so accuratle\y and painstakingly reproduced against massive Anti_Christian influence.
Audeinces are affected by these awards around the world/ and this is one film that could make a difference in peoples lives around the world.

Well you can blame the Foreign press as much you like. My only point was that this isn't Hollywood giving out these particular awards.
The organization is based in Hollywood and to think Hollywood has nothing to do with it, is to believe a guy selling the brooklyn bridge.
Ops4 God Bless America!
The GGs are a way that hey Foriegn Press has of kissing up to Hollywood bigshots. 'If you come to our party and give us an interview we'll give you an award!' That sort of thing. People who actually make movies don't vote for these things.

The point is hollywoods (Big Shots) as you call them and admit are influencing this group and could easily had The Passion as a foreign language film nominee.
Ops4 God Bless America!
NBC will be airing for the world to see, and that will be without The Passion being nominated, but a commie loving flick like Che, will be promoted on our main stream media, NBC.
I guess to some that is a non issue.
To me it is the whole issue.
OPs4 God BLess America!
The Hollywood Awards treatment of The Passion is as expected; they tried to destroy it long before it was ever released, remember? And although Hollywood's first love is money, and this film was a blockbuster in that arena, they're afraid of it's message as they've always been.
The people who've seen it, bought it, love and respect it will cherish it no matter what. It's message is timeless, as it is meant to be. Hollywood is the definition of the anti-Christian message, so why be surprised?
Once again, Golden Globes are NOT given out by Hollywood. I love saying it! :-)
thanks for the correction, however, they probably all travel in the same circles and perform the same mutual admiration rituals, no?
Well it's still two different groups of people. The main point is that the Golden Globes are a farce with no credibility. Hollywood types privately regard them as a joke...a place to go and get drunk for a night once a year. They deserve far less attention then we're giving them here.
Exactly - "the Golden Globes are a farce with no credibility" but people seem to need an issue to be "outraged" by. This is a manufactured "outrage" issue.
I am a Catholic and I agree.
I eagerly await the outrage when the Blockbuster Entertainment awards snub The Passion. "Hollywood Blockbuster People anti-Christian!" LOL
LOL! But most people are ignorant of this fact and think the Golden Globes mean something and thus a perfect vehicle for The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights to manufacture outrage over this and make a bundle on the donation money.
Bumpitty Bump to that!
