SW.- New year began with a bang. A powerful X2 class solar flare erupted near sunspot 715 at 40 minutes past midnight GMT on January 1st. If the explosion hurled a CME toward Earth (?) the cloud would arrive on Jan 2nd?

The battle of Fallujah started November 7th, the same day as an X-2 class solar flare and on November 10th there was an X-2.5. This one today is X-1.7 and I believe the radio burst from this one has already come and gone.
Thanks for posting this. I'll be watching for the auroras.

Has Bush made a statement yet or is he too busy on his holiday to be paying attention to this ? Also, what stingy amount of money has he pledged for this ?

Yes, but those X-Class was not Earth directed as I recall they miss us by 5-7 LD. This one might hit us direct and it's might effect our radio.
Radio Blackout is now STRONG !
