Drudge Pop Ups - Now More than spyware. Now downloading

My computer is set to advise me if a site I am going to is trying to download something onto my computer and gives me the option to download or cancel. I just went to Drudge's site and got a warning about an attempted download.
Drudge has been dumping at 3 to 7 spyware programs on my computer each time I visit - I've checked by clearing all spyware and then going to his site and checking again. That's bad enough. But, now to have direct downloads from from Drudge, that is not alright.
Likely it is from the same pop-ups and not specifically from Drudge's page, one of his advertisers. Some will say you a pop up blocker but those get in the way of the some of the functionality of sites I use on the net. I tolerate the pop-ups because it is less trouble to click them away than to turn on and off a pop-up stopper program.
The questions are these: Is Drudge being careful enough with the pop-ups he is facilitating through his site? Was there malicious code in the download that was attempted? Will Drudge address this? I have found no such instance on any other site I frequent except those in Asia that seem to love this practice.
One other question: Is anyone aware of any sort of malicious code that can be delivered through a site that wants to download to your computer just by visiting it?

That's why I dumped Drudge long ago. Just listen to him on the radio and get my news here.

It doesn't integrate with Outlook, because outlook is also a flawed product filled with security holes like swiss cheese.
I use the following:
Firefox browser:
http://www.mozilla.org/firefox
Extensions: Ad-block, Tab Browser Extensions, Spellbound, and foxyvoice.
Virus: Avast Free version
http://www.avast.com
Spyware:
Spybot Search & Destroy
Email: Thunderbird
http://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird
As to many webpages, got a list of those that are distorted, I'd like to see what I am allegedly missing?
Oh and as far as Office Suites go, I use OOo Open Office 1.1.4
http://www.openoffice.org
Nope, No IE, Outlook, MSOffice for me, not with all those exploits and vulnerabilities.
As for sepped, sorry, but Firefox is PROVEN faster, so nice try on that one though, I would have to disagree with you though.

Does Mozilla override Microsoft Explorer during its install? No.
If not, how do I delete Microsoft Explorer?
You don't. MSIE is, for all intents and purposes, part of the OS. Any attempts to delete/remove/uninstall MSIE may render your PC inoperable.

I've stopped going to Drudge's website. I can count on FR lemmings to report back anything newsworthy.

I seldom go to Drudge because of the 'timed' pop-ups, and they continue even after I leave his webpage. On his Sunday nite talk program, he denies that he has any control over them. BS, Drudge.
I have used FireFox the last few times I have gone to Drudge's website. Frequently, the Firefox screen goes black on his website, and Firefox shuts down.
Drudge needs to buy a clue. The pop-ups aren't doing him many favors. If anything, they are losing him many visitors--me for one.

Using Firefox right now,but actually AOL isn`t bad at blocking popups. The only one it misses is called fast click from IE.That one is very annoying because the computer freezes until it moves from a small block in the lower left corner to the center where I can X it away.
At work the popups on Drudge can give you a headache.
Firefox is faster but not always by a lot(only get 24000 bps connection).

Sorry you weren't impressed with Mozilla...but most of the posters here use it and have no problems. I know that it is not adaptable to Outlook, but for me it's a small price to pay. What I do is minimize my window and go right to my email on my desktop icon. With Windows Explorer I end up with all sorts of stuff and more times than not, the computer will freeze up.

No, it does not. I still use IE on occasion, like if I want to look at a news picture that works only as a popup

If you try to delete IE in Windows XP, you hose XP, because IE is built into the operating system.

Rats. I downloaded Firefox. The icon has appeared on my computer but nothing happens when I click on it. It says it's on my C drive but I don't see it there. My computer knowledge is so bad I just knew I was going to mess this up. Oh, well, It's New Years Eve and I wasn't doing anything else.

"Firefox is OK, but not great."
That's a personal preference really. I prefer Mozilla. Others prefer Opera. Until people try the others, they'll never know which they prefer.
"in my opinion it loads slower"
Slower than what? IE? Are you using the preloading option for it? If not, why not? Internet Explorer has the advantage of being almost entirely loaded into memory the moment Windows starts up because it's so tightly integrated into the OS (unless you're using IE3.x on Win95). My personal experience is that Firefox and Mozilla are both faster loading up and rendering pages than IE. When we get into having large numbers of web pages open (10+), Mozilla and Firefox beat the pants off IE in terms of resource usage. Mozilla was slower than IE starting up until 1.7x. With that branch, Mozilla began starting up faster than IE. It's always rendered pages faster, but its overhead slowed it down for the first window opening prior to 1.7x. Of course, we're now on 1.7.5, and things are looking great in terms of startup and render speed.
"many web pages are distorted even to the point of being unreadable."
I've seen a few (as in I can count them on one hand) web pages that don't render properly under Mozilla in the nearly 5 years I've been using it. I'd hardly consider that 'many'. I'd love to see the mass list you've compiled of these hordes of websites. The problems with some websites not rendering properly is due to the fact that the website designer used non-standards compliant stuff on the page and then never bothered testing it with anything but IE (which doesn't bother to follow a lot of standards). What's amusing is IE's pathetic support for CSS2. When you hit a website with proper CSS2 content, it'll often times render beautifully under Mozilla, Firefox, or other standards compliant browsers, while looking bizarre under Internet Explorer.
"Firefox also doesn't intergrate with Outlook"
Thank God for small favors. Why you'd want anything to interface with that virus-ridden, bug-filled monstrosity of an email client is far beyond me. Personally, I use Mozilla's built-in email client. It's efficient, stable, secure, and offers built-in spam protection. Once trained, it nails 90% or 95% of my spam. That's some time savings right there.
"I have neither the time nor inclination mess with my office suite on a couple dozen work stations."
I should think that the time spent cleaning up spyware and adware, clicking away popups, opening new windows (instead of using tabs), clearing out spam, restarting after crashes, and dealing with all the other problems associated with IE/Outlook/Outlook Express would far outweigh the relatively minor time investment in installing and "learning" Mozilla or another free alternative.
Personally, I don't understand how people can stand browsing the internet with tons of popups flying around, spyware floating all about, spam clogging the inbox, no tabbed browsing, crashes, and all the other problems IE/OE users deal with on a daily basis. I think I'd have sold my computer by now if I had to deal with all that. Then again, I suppose other people are more patient than me. I just want something that works and works well, so I just use Mozilla.

I have Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird going and love them. My question is, I just ordered Norton Internet Security 2005 but now I can't find where it's compatible with Mozilla. I do need a virus protection, my subscription to Norton has apparently run out. Shall I install the new Norton program or not? Thanks!

There is no need to delete IE. You can make Firefox your main browser if you want to
