Doubts linger as Gregoire win certified (3500 more ballots than voters)
Seattle Times ^ | 12/31/04 | David Postman

"This is exactly the kind of issue that I think can be brought up in the contested-election statutes," Reed said.

But why did he certify the election if the numbers are in doubt?

"What I signed was a certification for the numbers that were submitted to us by the counties," he said. "I am not in a judicial or an investigative role here."

The latest questions about King County came after the elections office released on Wednesday a list of all registered voters in the county, broken down by those who voted and those who didn't. The Republican Party, among other groups, had requested the information as part of its investigation of voting irregularities.

Conservative blogger Stefan Sharkansky pointed out the discrepancy Wednesday, and by yesterday it was Topic A among Rossi backers and Republican Party officials.

Party Chairman Chris Vance said it could be the "smoking gun" needed to overturn the election.

The number of King County ballots counted in the final tally was 899,199 — 3,539 more than the number of participating voters reported in the county's list

The up side is that the internet will shine the light on vote fraud just like it has done with the MSM. Things will get cleaned up and we will have fair elections. The people will demand it.

Hopefully you are right. The legislative hot-line was busy yesterday with most of the calls asking for a revote. My state Legislative district is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans but right now two out of three our Democrats so they know they may be vulnerable in the next election. At least if the election is fair.

I agree that Eastern Washington should create their own state. However, you should forget merging with Idaho.

If E. Washington were to merge with Idaho there would be a total of 4 congressmen and two senators!

As two seperate states there would be a total of 4 congressmen and 4 Senators!!!

I think we need to renew the initiative to create a new state for Eastern Washington. King Count is out of touch and is sucking the life out of the east side of the state. For example we fund about 25% of the road tax and receive back about 10%. We're so tired of paying for their excesses. Our roads are rutted and they buy new ferries.

Although I agree with you, please don't forget about us in the red county on the west side of the state!!

I wonder if we could generate enough revenue on the east side of Washington State to support all the necessary government operations and services without having to create an Eastern Washington State income tax? I think we could eliminate many of the social services that have turned our state into a major welfare state ie; all able bodied people work or they don't eat. Next we eliminate the high B&O tax so we can attract more industry to our area- maybe even woo Boeing back (only to the east side this time).

I agree with you that the Republicans should fight this to the bitter end. There is no rational comparison between the WA governors race and the SD senate race or FL 2000. If the Seattle Dems get away with this one, they will never allow a fair election in two or four or twenty years.

I live and vote in Idaho, but work in WA. According the the Dem thinking, anyone that ever sets foot in your state (or in the past) has the right to vote there, so long as they vote Democrat.

The damage from Gregoire's plans for the Columbia basin water would impact ID, MT, and OR.

No wonder Rossi called for a revote yesterday.

That's the obvious solution. If this gets to the Supreme Court, I hope they throw the election results out. They need to hold the election, again.

I was in San Francisco during a mayoral campaign several years ago and there was actually an article in the paper asking the question of who would receive the homeless vote. In S.F. the homeless can register by using the cross streets where they panhandle.

Maybe we could swap Spokane's own robber baron Coles Gang for the lone red county. Then, maybe the like-minded good people of Northern Idaho wouldn't mind getting away from Boise, as well as their 3% income tax. They could join us in our new state, we'd elect Hagadone for governor, and just be done with it.

:-)

Dude, you are going to get ripped for that comment. I've been getting savaged on another thread for simply opposing a revote.

"No mention of the voter actually having to EXIST??!!"

If more votes were cast than voters who participated then I would assume item (i) would apply????

Better to fight than disspiriting and depressing your Pubbie voters that are feeling their oats for maybe the first time ever in this state.

The fight has been fought and we lost this round. It's better to know when to leave the battlefield to fight another day than to stay and lose the high ground by grousing about fraud when we know that the media will portray us as petty mean-spirited losers.

Chrissy and the D's will continue to screw this state up and the next governorship will be ours if we walk away from the stench of corruption that the public knows exists around this election.

So be it...If anyone chooses to read some of the stuff that's being posted in here, it will remind them of the same vitriol heaped on us after Florida/2000. I think it's better to accept that this contest was won by Chrissy and the D's but it was a Pyrrhic victory that will cause them immense trouble in the future with the electorate who already knows they stole the election through fraud and corruption. Better we not get into the mud pit with the D's and run a clean campaign next time around.

This is all you care about, how the media will present us???? You run and hide under the bedcovers and don't worry about a thing. We're fighting for your rights too.

I don't know what you're smoking to somehow deduct that allowing them to run over us now will make 'em want to vote for us later, but if you head on over to precinct 1823, I'm sure you could off a few hundred dime bags of it pretty quick!

There's no high ground to maintain when you've been out of the Governor's office for 24 years and don't have even one house of the legislature. In four years we won't gain one single vote from anyone because we were nice guys when the other side got tough.

YOU accept defeat a lot easier than the Democrats do. Once you get as tough as they are, then you'll have a chance against them.

I haven't hid from anything. But part of fighting the good fight is knowing when to surrender the battle so you can win the war.

I don't know what you're smoking to somehow deduct that allowing them to run over us now will make 'em want to vote for us later,

The D's have won this battle through fraud, deceit and corruption. The public knows this. Do you want them to know us as poor losers and hypocrites who spent 4 years criticizing the D's for the same behavior we're displaying right now as well?
