Contributions are pouring into the American charities involved in the massive relief effort in South Asia at an "incredible" pace.
Americans are using the Internet, the mail and the phone and dropping by local relief agency offices to donate - to help the survivors of the killer tsunamis get back on their feet and rebuild their lives, their homes and communities.
"The response has just been incredible," noted American Red Cross spokeswoman Jackie Flowers, who reported that $18 million in contibutions had been received since Sunday.

At CARE USA's office in Atlanta, "a stranger just walked into the office with a check for $10,000. And our offices around the country are reporting similiar experiences," said Ahuma Adodoadji, director for emergency humanitarian assistance.
He said the agency has received about $3.5 million in donations so far.
Others benefitting from America's big heart and open pocketbooks include Doctors Without Borders, which received $4 million in donations through its Web site alone.
Save the Children USA reported $3 million in donations to date; Americares, $2 million; Oxfam America, $1.6 million; and Catholic Charities, $1.13 million.
" That fine gentleman from the United Nations was miguided and ill-informed," said Dean Owen of World Vision....
Americans have been incredibly generous," said Owen, whose agency has recieved more than $1 million for its South Asian disaster relief - without advertising.

The Red Cross, according to Elizabeth Dole, provides half the blood for Americans who need blood.
They are really set up for getting blood and giving it to the injured.
I give them blood all the time. I don't need a link for that; I need an IV.
I give them my money so they can donate my blood. Just need a line of credit for that; not a link.
The Red Cross does the blood. The other groups do other things.
George Bush is the honorary chairman of the Red Cross. He does promotions with them. For example the money for Afghan children.

The homepage of the Presbyterian Church (USA) has a link to donate. Funds have already been advanced to the affected tsunami disaster areas by the PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance) Program, which is part of a network of ecumenical organizations. The PDA specializes in providing sanitation and medicine kits. By the way, all PCUSA mission workers in the affected areas are safe and accounted for.
There must be a lot of loosers here then, because they keep telling me how to spend my money.
Also, I have been stingy. The Norwegian guy is right. I gave 50 dollars and I should give more. I am so fortunate to have had all the advantages.
I am going right back to http://www.amazon.com and give more money to the Red Cross to support blood donations and transfusions.
Not being a looser, I have a lot of money and can afford to be generous.

Salvation ARmy has already stated they are going to stay there until absolutely no further need for their presence... they said when the cameras and most others leave they will still be there. Give to them not IRC or ARC. (IMO)
The poster in question has written NOTHING here which is antithetical to CONSERVATISM. In fact, he or she highly recommended Samaritan's Purse as a charity that helps people who need it.
I just a while ago sent our donation to the Salvation Army. They aren't publicized as much as the Red Cross, but from their website, it appears that they are on the scene with aid right now.
You know that these figures are going to balloon as soon as people get past New Year and back to church on Sunday. The donations will begin in earnest then. I know that my church will send a large donation to UMCOR.
