Tsunami Could Hit Here, Geologists Say
BY JEREMY SMERD - Special to the Sun December 29, 2004
Could New York be next?
The earthquake that ravaged coastline communities surrounding the Indian Ocean has reawakened a debate over the possibility that a tsunami could hit New York.

It seems that in theory, a tsunami could hit anywhere that has a coastline.
I don't even want to think about the death and destruction on the east coast if a tsunami hit during a weekday. Truly a terrorist's dream.
How do you evacuate New York City in a few hours?
Our local paper interviewed a nationally renowned geologist on this matter and it was explained in great detail why this would not happen here.
SOmething about a ridge under the ocean which would prevent the waves from getting that high.
I think a tsunami would probably avoid NYC for fear of getting mugged.
Hillary Clinton striptease?
Elevators.
thank god anyone who lives on the great lakes dont have anything to worry about unless your on the water with a boat when a nor-easter hits
Well if we can develop a very good system we could have several weeks notice hopefully.
A biggie sized enema?
That would do it.
That's actually an excellent article; one of the first media article that simply wasn't a mouthpiece for the Canary collapse hypesters...

"It seems that in theory, a tsunami could hit anywhere that has a coastline.'

One will hit New York eventually.
You and I could be a thousand years dead and buried.
Good thing we have geologists. I hadn't realized that there were oceans so close to New York.
Nuke it?
I tried posting the whole article but board rules said it had to be an excerpt if coming from that site.
Ah, that's too bad.
The Palestinians will be dancing AGAIN in the streets. Again, why is it that we give these people huge aid packages each and every year?
A big wall in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean might work. We could raise it when that Canary Island volcano blows and half the island falls into the sea. On the other hand, blowing the island in half by stages might work, too, but the inhabitants might disagree.
