As the Asian quake and tsunami death toll topped 100,000 and is rising, President Bush said the United States' initial grant of $35 million in SE Asia was 'only the beginning of our aid.' He said the United States, India, Australia and Japan have formed an international coalition to coordinate worldwide relief and reconstruction efforts for the Asian region. Aid agencies today warned disease will also cause massive casualties among the survivors as the biggest relief effort in history began.
The president took issue with Jan Egeland, the United Nations' emergency relief coordinator who called the US "stingy" in regard to helping other nations. (Egeland later said his remarks were misinterpreted.) Bush noted that the United States provided $2.4 billion "in food, in cash, in humanitarian relief to cover the disasters for last year. ... That's 40 percent of all the relief aid given in the world last year."

Happy New Year Everybody. May you all have a prosperous and happy year. It is 11:59 here in Mountain time zone. Everyone else has gone to a party and I am home alone. I can hear the fireworks now.
Happy New Year to you all!
I guess I'll go to bed now. The west coasters have now made it to 2005 and the celebration in Las Vegas looks great!
That's where I wish I was this year.
But we had a good day. My mom, my sister and one of my daughters went to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the museum and then went out for a nice Texas steak.
Hope everyone had a good night!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Prayers for all to go well, and your Dad's swift and remarkable recovery! The Happiest New Year to you, and all those in your country, snugs!
Happy 2005 to you too! :) I'm still in shock that after all the festivities that Christmas is over. They just keep getting shorter and shorter.
Thanks for the good wishes, snugs.
I'm praying for your Dad but know first hand that time is needed for antibiotics to work, and for test results to come in.
I had the most talkative roommates when I was Hospitalized in early September. They were either talking with their adult children who ignored visiting hours, OR talking on the phone with everyone they knew. I live alone - and so am not used to talking that much NOR hearing someone talking with every person they know, every day! I thought I would go nuts.
Then they were sicker than I - and with the second one I had, they would check her Bp at 4 AM and finding it high, start "working on her", lights would go on and that was the end of my "night's" sleep. I couldn't wait to get home to get a full solid 7 hours of sleep! But before they let me go, I thought I was going to go nuts.
So, I'm praying for your Dad - I don't think any of us "enjoys" being in the Hospital; whether it's the tests, the interruptions, the lights, the general inconvenience and the loss of privacy, there is always something upsetting and different from our normal routine going on.
I'll pray not just for his healing but for his peace of mind.
May 2005 be a better year for your family and mine!
God bless you and yours.
Hope that is correct. There has been talk lately concerning Clinton coveting the role. What better venue for his ego!
At the time of the crash there were speculations that Hammarskj^ld had been assinated. Don't remember the details.
