Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.

Good afternoon, it's finally thawing out here. And I went off to Home Depot and Lowe's to buy tiles for a 'small' front door area project. Ceramic tiles there are 12 of them 8 x 8's. 4 across and 3 down, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The first phase is done. They are mastic down, with the 1/4th inch spacers installed. It was harder to cut the old worn carpet and jank it up than to put the tiles down. They are a light sand color, the grout will be antique white. The project so far has cost $24.91 for material. I still have to replace the quarter round and frame the tiles in with wood. That should be about another $8-10.00. Home Depot had a mastic/grout all in one product that I hope works as it said it would.

I laid the tiles on the floor with the spacers in place, took a perma marker and drew around them, removed the tiles, then starting cutting the carpet out of the space.

Grouting is next. So far I've not had to sponge off any mastic/grout off my tiles...I work neat.

Dennis and I had planned to replace the carpet which is badly worn this next year. But that won't happen now, so this mini face lift will help improve the looks of the door area. I'd already painted the door a dark taupe with a lighter taupe around the small window in the door.

I got the tiles at Lowe's and the mastic/grout at Home Depot. HD didn't have the tiles I wanted. At first I thought to do 12 inch tiles, but the 8 inch worked out cheaper and nicer in the long run.

Afternoon, Miss Meggie. Thank you for being here again this fine day. These Hall of Fame threads are especially helpful to me - sometimes I'll get mail from someone asking if we've ever featured someone, and it's much easier to look it up on "my" archived threads than to do the "search" thingie. (which wasn't working properly yesterday when I was trying to get all these links and dates anyway. Had to work forward on each of our threads since the *last* one I did - not a lot of fun! At least we keep our daily threads linked forward and backward, which helped!)
