1010 WINS has learned that "Law and Order" star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at the age of 69. His manager, Robert Malcolm confirmed Orbach's death this morning.
Tony Award winner Jerry Orbach (Promises, Promises) earned a reputation as the quintessential New Yorker through his work in such films as Prince of the City and Crimes and Misdemeanors, as well as for his roles in Broadways 42nd Street and on NBCs Law & Order. Orbach has been honored with the Crystal Apple Award from the New York City Mayors Office of Film, Television and Broadcasting for his contribution to the arts, and was presented with a lifetime achievement award from the Friars Club of New York.

One of the original "Fantastiks." A wonderful actor and New Yorker by adoption (he grew up in Waukegan, outside of Chicago).
Born in NY, moved to Waukegan, went to Northwestern and U of I, moved back to NYC :-)
A few years back, I read that Dick Van Dyke's doctor/murder show was the most watched re-run on television....I bet it's Law and Order now.

What a great body of work. To create Billy Flynn in 'Chicago' and Julian Marsh in '42nd. Street' - that alone puts him in Broadway's Hall of Fame.
An enormous and uniquely American talent.
Sorry to hear of his death ... what were his politics?
I don't know, he has already collapsed on the set and was treated for an undisclosed problem (unless you count the ever-famous "overwork").
The cancer probably spread to a critical organ.
OK, his actor might sober up. Hey, he was turning his life around.
razzle dazzle em!
May he rest in peace.
To me, he will always be Detective Lennie Briscoe.
He left Law and Order last season
He currently working on that spin off I think if Dick Wolf kind about it he better write something in Trial by jury and current Law and order about Lennie death
RIP LENNIE
69 years old and still playing a cop. Good stuff!
I remember back in 1991 when Touchstone was trotting out a sneak preview of the remake of Father of The Bride with Steve Martin. The ad had also stated people were invited to stay and watch Beauty as well. I decided to do just that.
Father was a good film, a nice comedy with some good acting all around.
But then we got to Beauty.
Ever have that feeling when you are sitting in a movie theater and you feel like you have just been blown through the back wall? That's how it was for me. And I have only felt that once since then (with Saving Private Ryan).
I hear old interview about Jerry he claim that he should retired long time ago
This what I understand at age of 63 NYPD cop go on madatory retirement
So he got scoreboard over NYPD rulebook LOL!
I think they can go at 55 on the young end. Playing 55 at age 69, now that's acting!

"White sidewalls and Del Shannon. Absolutely great."
Yep, you said it!
Damn. This just ain't right!
My first off Broadway show was seeing Jerry Orbach in The Fantastiks. He was so talented. A loss. Regards,
Shocked to hear about Jerry Orbach's death. He did a great job on Law and Order. The cancer was probably the reason why he left the original show. One publication reported that he said the Law and Order production schedule was getting too much for him. I will always remember him from Law and Order and the "Promises, Promises" CD. He was a good singer as well as actor. R.I.P. Mr. Orbach, we will miss you.
