The Vatican newspaper has denounced what it called a decision by the IDF to deny emergency help to disaster victims in Sri Lanka.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano singled out Israeli military leaders for declining a request for emergency medical help.
Contrary to the Vatican report, an Israeli plane carrying 80 tons of food and medical supplies worth $100,000 was set to depart for Sri Lanka Wednesday morning. At the request of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, a team of some 150 Israeli medical and security personnel aborted their planned trip to the island nation Tuesday night.
The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons."
The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested. (Jerusalem Post staff and agencies)
"You do know that the topic country, Sri Lanka, is comprised of Buddhists and Hindus primarily?"
Do you know the ethnicity/religion of the actual gov't officials who told Israel to stay away? I know a lot of people hate the Jews, but do you really think Buddists and Hindi hate then _that_ much?
"Sri Lanka only has 7% Muslims. Try again."
I don't think I need to. I don't know the actual ethnicity/religion of the gov't official who told Israel to stay away, but who else but Muslims hate the Jews _that_ much? The Buddists? The Hindi?
It seems to me there are many men, scattered throughout all religions who actively seek to set all believers in God against one another. Then they can ascend to supremacy and enslave the rest of us useless breeders and eaters.
From which issue of "This Rock" did you get this? Thanks.
""If the New York Times is for it, I'm against it."
Right on!!!!! I follow the same secular version as well, except that since I live in Virginia, I also add the Washington Pravda (er...Post) to the list!
In order to believe what ever the pope says , whether off the cuff or "ex Cathedra" both the Pope and the institution must be believed.
The level of trust that catholics have in the pope must be based on respect for him and the institution.
That trust has been sorely eroded over the last 3 years and continues as many parishes around the country continue to obstruct the " finalization " of the Sexual abuse crisis.
If the people truly believe in the goodness of the clergy and the Vatican including the pope, How is it that only about 10% of the Faithful still go to confession?

Sorry you got lambasted for mentioning this thing about spies. I hope you or someone else can find this re Sri Lankan gov't. Have you tried googling it?
You have to remember that many here are touchy about this.
I take it as a 'given' that spies will be part of any package {whether military or not} sent to help...that's including us. Seems to me it's nothing to be concerned about.
Huh????
As far as I am concerned, no one who is human is infallible on anything.
To believe otherwise is fantasy and idiocy.
Thank you.
Don't know if you have seen it, but here is the corrected story...
The following is a corrected version of a story that appeared on CWNews.com earlier this week, in which a crucial error in translation caused a serious misinterpretation of the news. CWNews apologizes for the error.
Vatican, Dec. 28 (CWNews.com) - The Vatican newspaper has denounced a decision by Sri Lanka to reject emergency aid offered by the Israeli government. Sri Lanka declined the Israeli aid because it would have been furnished by a military team.
Calling for "a radical and dramatic change of perspective" among people "too often preoccupied with making war," L'Osservatore Romano chastised the government of the stricken Asian nation for putting unnecessary restrictions on an Israeli offer to furnish medical help.
The Vatican paper observed that in what "should be a time for unconditional solidarity," some world leaders seem incapable of escaping a "small-minded approach that restricts their horizons." The suffering caused by the tsunami has created "a mass of deaths, across borders," L'Osservatore observed. The fact that the devastation swept across different societies, cultures, and nations should help to reinforce the universal perspective, the paper suggested.
Please accept my apology for making my original smart ass post. And thank you again for the earlier info you addressed to me.
Amen to that!
Is that the text of the original? Or did the Vatican change it? I mean, if they're willing to hide child molesting priests, I think they'd be willing to hide a paragraph or two of text. I doubt the JPost misinterpreted the article to that degree. It looks like a classic mainstream media-type scrub-job to cover up lies they originally printed without admitting fault.
There is also Christian immigration to Israel (primarily from the former Soviet Union). Of course there is no Christian immigration to Muslim countries.
Also keep in mind that 100 years ago the Christians had no where to go. The West would not have taken Arabs in (Christian or not).
