Recipe for a Happy New Year

To leave the old with a burst of song
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the thing that binds you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that's past;
To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the not worthwhile of the days grown old,
To dare to go forth with a purpose true,
To the unknown task of the year that's new;
To help your brother along the road
To do his work and lift his load;
To add your gift to the world's good cheer,
Is to have and to give a Happy New Year.

On this Day in History
1170 Thomas Beckett, Archbishop of Canterbury was assassinated by knights of King Henry II; Beckett and the King had been engaged in a conflict over the rights and privileges of the Church

On this Day in History

1845 Texas was admitted to the Union as the 28th state

Don't forget the syrup!

LOL!!! Too bad I no longer have a fireplace. ;)

His second e-mail is all about my lack of skill as a Web designer. He concludes that one by writing "I am a web programmer and if you wanted, for a fee, I could redesign and reprogram your page. Right now the design is pretty awful...."

My gut reaction was to write out this reply: "What you say I lack in Web design ability, I say you lack in diplomacy and finesse, so I guess that makes us even."

(IF I decide to reply to him, I'll wait until I'm less moody to do so.) ;)

"There is no problem that a sufficient amount of firepower can't solve."

LOL!!! I knew I picked the wrong day to give up shooting. ;)

Events at my brother's house Christmas Eve:

My niece got my sister-in-law an entire outfit for Christmas (Jackie Kennedy-style sweater set, skirt, small black purse, heels). We had the SIL model it for us, and she wasn't sure that it was right for her. I told my SIL (who hadn't really celebrated that it was her 50th birthday in October) that the outfit made her look 30. THAT convinced her to wear it on Christmas day.

I then told my niece that with her skill as a personal shopper, I wanted her to go find me an outfit that'd make me look like I weigh 98 pounds. My brother said, "She can probably find a tank in your size." I told him that I'd MAKE sure I got more respect when I showed up at his house in my tank -- and that he wouldn't dare tell me it made my butt look big. (Speak softly and drive a tank. Think that'd work?) ;)

Heard about that wet stuff...we're getting it, now.

Dark, angry, gray skies overhead...but some beautiful rainbows as a result!
