Toy Guns Pulled From Costume Shop Shelves | |
Thousands of toy guns that were for sale in costume and novelty shops in New York state have been removed as part of a settlement between the state attorney general's office and two national wholesalers, the New York Times reported Dec. 20. Attorney General Eliot Spitzer had accused the wholesalers of distributing 12,000 toy guns in 2001 in violation of a state law which previously had applied only to retailers. New York State bans the sale of toy guns in stores unless they have a permanent orange stripe running down both sides of the barrel. Without admitting wrongdoing, Rubie's Costumes Co. agreed to pay $27,000 in civil penalties and costs and Franco American Novelty Co. agreed to pay $10,000. Spitzer said that toy guns pose a public danger because police sometimes mistake them for the real thing. In 1997, he said, four people were killed and a child was seriously injured when police thought toy guns were real ones. |

HEY! It ain't da cops who're jamming the legislature with this crap! ['cept, mebbe, a couple change-agent, diploma-mill-educated doofusses with captain's rank, or higher]
I've seen those and with a little bit of black spray paint they are quite convincing.
Cool! Just don't point them at a cop (or a CCW permit holder, armed homeowner, dude with an axe, etc...)
Of course not,but it just feeeeeels good.Like everything w/liberals, it's all smoke & mirrors.
They are great for playing "Army" around the house with some friends though! I know I would've loved 'em as a kid!
And that was 15 years ago. Today, I might not be so hesitant: I keep finding real ones in the booty-cracks of juvenile arrestees in my booking room. Sobering!
Thats a silly comment. You don't have to point a toy gun at a cop to have him/her shoot you.
Does any one remember the incident on haloween about 3 or 4 years ago in California?
Here is what I remember. Police were called about a loud party on haloween. Two young cops arrive and decide to walk around the back of the house. Rookie female afirmative action hire peers through a window and sees a man with a gun in a room full of people and blows him away.
It turns out that the poor guy (now dead) was a black bit part actor on a network series.
I never did hear what happened to the trigger happy rookie female cop, or the outcome of the law suit that was sure to follow and rightfully should have.
Toy guns can kill.
Hope she lost her job, at the very least.
wow - their imaginary friends must be breathing sighs of relief at being safe now from toy-gun violence.
"In 1997, he said, four people were killed and a child was seriously injured when police thought toy guns were real ones"
Brings to mind a cop juiced up on donuts and coffee grabbing at his shirt pocket saying "OMG where's my bullet, where's my bullet"
"Toy guns can kill."
You've fallen into the trap!
Toy guns, SUV's, and real guns don't kill.
Killing is an act of aggression, or a mistake. Neither of which can be made by an inanimate object.
Unqualified, over reactive female cops can kill.
NYC and liberals....
Where's the Springsteen song about that?
41 What?
No I haven't, but to assuage you, how about this "Toy guns can cause you to be killed".
"hat's dumb..."
Really? Cops no longer have self control as to not shoot kids with toy guns? They used to.
"It ain't da cops who're jamming the legislature with this crap! "
No, but I bet you will find cops push the legislature for it.
"how about this "Toy guns can cause you to be killed"."
How about, "Dumb, incompetent, trigger-happy, out-of-control cops can cause you to be killed, toy gun or not."
They have GOT to be kidding!
And you need to remember this if you ever feel like clowning around with a toy gun. You also need to remember that a lot of people carry concealed now too and may mistake your toy 45 to be real and ventilate you also.
I don't see a problem with making toy guns look like toy guns.
The same year, fourteen patrol officers were treated and released for dental injuries from eating wax fruit from store displays.
