KY Officials Switch to GOP (3 more Zel Millers in the Bluegrass State)

"I, along with so many other conservative Democrats in Kentucky, have found it virtually impossible to wholeheartedly support candidates whose policies do not reflect what I grew up with and learned at a young age," [County Attorney] Hickman said. Then he quoted President Ronald Reagan's line explaining why he abandoned the Democratic Party in the 1960s. "I did not leave my party, it left me."

Hickman said he disagrees with the national party on its support of abortion - especially partial birth abortion - its support of gun control legislation and its opposition to extending President George W. Bush's tax cuts beyond next year.

Three more Zel Millers emerge in Kentucky. Long known on FR, Democrats have lost their way particularly in the Solid (red state) South. Pit a fork in them, they're done. Clinton-Carter liberalism has killed the party.

McGovern put thru the first stake. When the dems embraced McGovern, they officially entered the wilderness.

The nice thing about a lot of these New Converts is that they come from the County and City level where party building takes place.

Congressmen are nice but Sheriffs, County Board Members, and Aldermen are better for the long run.

I'm usually happy with one convert at a time, this is like a triple scoop on a hot summers day for a six year old.

In some circles, this would be referred to as "a mass defection"...

This news warms the cockles of my heart. I received a Christmas card yesterday from a friend now residing in Kentucky, and she mentioned that she had spent part of the year working on the Kerry campaign. I was so bummed by that that I almost vowed never to answer her cards again. Now I think that I'll send her this article! He husband wants her to practice on her computer! :)

My Father was a born/bred Kentucky Democrat. My other
grandparents were southern ILlinois Democrats. So,
I grew up with Democratic outlooks on both sides of
my family. I switched parties in the 70's. I don't
think any of my ancestors have had cause to roll over
in their graves due to my decision.

Here's to Kentucky roots (no, that's not what they mean by 'gay'):

My Old Kentucky Home
Words and Music by: Stephen C. Foster

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day;
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy, and bright,
By'n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.

They hunt no more for the 'possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by that old cabin door;
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow where all was delight;
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days and the trouble all will end
In the field where sugar-canes may grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light,
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

when Ann Northrup..supposedly the most heavily targeted GOP congress critter the last thee election cycles...in a district said to be tending Dem...won going away against a pretty fair, (for a Dem candidate), easily.. last month..you can pretty much write off the Dems in the bluegrass state...BTWE.. FWIW..I look for Bunning to "retire" sometime next year...Anne will be appointed to his seat..and she'll run in a special election in 2006..

The version I learned says "the darkies are gay" but I KNOW it isn't politically correct......

I lived and went to school in Kentucky and have many relatives and friends there. Kentucky was a solid Dem state then. Now there are no Dems holding national office. The biggest Dem left is Jerry Abrams, Mayor of Louisville. He will be hard to beat but as you can see he has no coat tails.
I may like UK blue but I really like UofL Red!

Someone better take Bunning. He already filed for reelection in 2010! I kid you not.

After the past election..no way he runs..let alone serves out a full term..they'll let enough time elapse so he'll have his dignity..then it'll be for health reasons..Anne will be great.
