Israel has cancelled plans to send a 150-person rescue mission to Sri Lanka after the devastated island objected to the military composition of the team.
The delegation - including 60 soldiers - had been due to set off on Tuesday to help after Sunday's tsunami disaster.
Instead, a smaller team will escort a convoy carrying emergency supplies, Israeli officials said.
Sri Lanka restored diplomatic ties with Israel in 2000, despite objections from the island's Muslim minority.

"Its not religious bigotry. Orthodox jews from israel are already there. It was the israeli military that the Sri Lankan military did not want over there."
Maybe not, but I wonder if the US aid arriving by military cargo plans, manned by military men, packed by military men, will also be sent home. We'll see.
Pray for the innocent Sri Lankan's and do send them money if you can. Even the bigots deserve aid, they don't know any difference other then the example we set.
You'd think a country as bad off as Sri Lanka is they'd be grateful for any help they could get.
I just lost a tad of sympathy for the countries that have suffered from this tragedy.
My bet is most of the victims would welcome the help from Israel.
I'm with you.
True. We should not confuse the needs of the people with the insanity of government.
Isn't that the truth! The press has been telling us for years how much the world hates the United States, but today, the press is demanding to know why WE aren't doing more for this disaster.
Why should we?
Meaning what?
Doesn't Israel have a crack search and rescue team?
Please reconsider your actions. I understand your anger, but it is bureaucrats who made this ridiculous decision, not the victims who would welcome a hot meal and warm blanket from ANYONE who provided it.
better explanations
From the BBC article.
Neither side has officially explained the change of plan, although some reports say the objection came from Sri Lanka's military.
Sri Lanka Ambassador Diffa Digeratna is quoted by Jerusalem Post as saying that the change was due to the "the lack of accommodations in Colombo".

Israel Forced to Abandon Aid Operation
The Israeli army was forced to abandon plans to send a 150 member team to aid in recovery efforts in Sri Lanka following opposition from the island nation.
The medical delegation including 60 soldiers was set to leave today, but Sri Lankas army protested at the military composition of the relief team, Israeli security officials said.
Instead, a small team planned to escort 80 tons of equipment, including generators, tents, blankets and mattresses, officials said.
Israels army had planned to send medical staff to set up field hospitals, including internal medicine and paediatric clinics,.
About 500 Israelis who were on holiday in countries hit by tidal waves have not yet made contact, said Foreign Ministry director general Ron Prosor.
maybe that's why Sri-Lanka received the brunt of the Tsunami's GOD does send messages to people, maybe they still have no clue...
Yak:
I have to agree with the previous posts---if the Sri Lankan Gov't want to be picky---I can pick where I send my money.
Right now the SL Gov't ought to be taking what they can get---with a big "thank you"
"he muzzies can help the Sri Lankans!"
Yeah I know. Bin Laden really gives a damn...
I'm trying really hard to keep sympathy for the countries and what they are facing
But this BS from their ungrateful politicians and the likes of the UN are really ticking me off
I'm this close to just saying .. stop all payments everywhere and they'll soon learn just how stingy the US can be if they wanted to be
The Israelis are trying to help and get slapped for doing so ..
We've all read about the thousands of islamic "charities". I'm sure they'll be going all out to send aid. (/sarcasm)
And the poor devestated citizens are left to the mercy of their corrupt officials.
Exactly...
There are enough good causes in the world that I don't have to help anybody who listen to the religion of hatred...
