Israel has cancelled plans to send a 150-person rescue mission to Sri Lanka after the devastated island objected to the military composition of the team.
The delegation - including 60 soldiers - had been due to set off on Tuesday to help after Sunday's tsunami disaster.
Instead, a smaller team will escort a convoy carrying emergency supplies, Israeli officials said.
Sri Lanka restored diplomatic ties with Israel in 2000, despite objections from the island's Muslim minority.

How very weird. With Budhist, Hindus and Christians comprising the majority, I am suprised they refuse Israeli help. I bet they would send Mother Theresa home now too if she was alive. And I thought our PC holiday stuff about Santa was bizaare; this takes the cake.
I just found out how much I will be paying in Fed taxes this year and am fuming. That any of this goes to the UN is maddening! I wish we could check off a list of where outside the US we chose not to have our taxes go. THAT would be taxation with representation!
I just got satellite radio and have been listening to Tammy Bruce who has been on a tear about all of this since Monday.
Basically, and I agree with her, most of these Muslim governments are corrupt and hate us yet we go all out to help these people and places but would any of them lift a hand to help us in a similar situation? I think not.
And here we have the total hypocrisy of Sri Lanka not letting the Israel in to help because of concerns of the make up of the rescue team. I just wonder if we should send any help at all.
The sad thing is: probably the only thing the local media will release (and repeat) to the locals is that "Israel isn't here" without explaining exactly WHY they're not there...
I wouldn't bet that the religous bigotry in Asia is restricted to the top. I've been there and it runs VERY deep throughout society.
If 60 Isreali soldiers are a threat, they've got bigger problems than a couple of waves!
