Vitamin supplements used by thousands of Britons, from pregnant women to people warding off winter colds, are to be swept from shop shelves from the new year under controversial European Union safety regulations

We need to pressure congress to let them know this is unacceptable if they intend to implement CODEX in the USA.
Between poor soil, excess chemicals, poor diet, and prescription drugs we deplete nutrients from our bodies very rapidly. The most susceptible are the vit B complex and the Omega 3's but each drug we take has an a negative effect on our bodies.
When vitamins are outlawed only outlaws will have vitamins.
When vitamins are outlawed only outlaws will have vitamins.

I can see the headline stories now..."Chief Islamo-Frog, Chirac, today announced that the EU has declared vitamins an illicit drug, the sale of which can result in prison terms and heavy fines..."
Enter, stage left, the black market for "One-A-Days"...???? -- where does this freakin' insanity come from ???
Hillary, keep your paws of my powders!
Coming soon to the US.
Ephedra, andro, herbal supplements, then vitamins.
That's just crazy talk, but look at the source.
This only looks to affect those supplements that are way off the scale when compared to figures that represent quantities required as part of a normal diet. Reading elsewhere, my multivitamens and minerals tablets are ok. If you *need* more than the normal intake, see your doctor.
I am reminded from time to time that the Unibomber subsisted for over a year entirely on parsnips.
You are absolutely right. This little bit of legislation will soon be forced on Americans as well via trade agreements we have already signed.
This has come in under the radar for the most part and has received little to no attention. The impact will be large however.
You will no longer be able to go to the pharmacy and pick up most vitamins without getting a prescription first, which will make the overall cost of even higher.
People take vitamins to keep from having to go to a Doctor and pay outrageous prices for an office visit in the first place.
This borders on the ridiculous. I wonder if having a Colombian drug mule hauling vitamin C for Grandma isn't in our future?
Crazy talk? Which, the article or the first response.
FYI, this is real. The EU enacted the Food Directive in 2002 (I believe). It is set to be implemented in stages:
Stage 1 goes into effect June of 2005. At that time, about 300 various vitamin supplements will no longer be sold over the counter within the EU. The only way to get them after that is visit a doctor and get a prescription.
Stage 2 goes into effect in 2007. This is when the directive expands to include nearly 1,000 various herbs. Same thing: Need them, get a prescription.
Guess who is behind this? (Hint: starts with pharma).
This is no joke. It is serious. Just do quick search on the net and you will find plenty of info.
Sorry but incorrect. You need to research the EU Food Directive.
This directive will eventually cover over 300 various vitmin supplements and nearly 1,000 herbal supplements.
It is the approach the pharmaceutical companies are using to get their hands on some of the profits of these areas.
Already here in the USA, the pharma companies are pushing legislation to gut the DSHEAS act of 1994. Don't know what that is? Just do a search.
Yep, they better not lay a hand on my herbal supplements I need my... err.. my.. eh.. Gingko to help my memory!

Here is the problem. Reacting to the hysteria over ephedra, Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D.-Ill.) has introduced S. 722, cosponsored by colleagues Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.), Dianne Feinstein (D.-Calif.), and Charles Schumer (D.-N.Y.). The bill gives unprecedented power to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to remove nutritional supplements from the market.
I was just thinking myself (as I was sorting my days nutrients) this will be our next "prohibition".... especially with McCain etal in a witch hunt over the baseball thing.
We need to start pressuring our representatives now.
They are getting rid of only MEGA dose vitamins. You can still take the mega doses by taking multiples of the regular doses.
I'm waiting for her to write a bill on "mandatory cremation".....and even make it retroactive to include Ron Brown and Vince Foster.
Of course, there will be a clause in there that no US prez or any wife or child of the Prez will be cremated.
Kinda like the clause they created to "hide" her college thesis.
Read up on CODEX -- it comes from the WTO... very scary in it's overall implications.

It is all bad, including the WTO, itself. Nothing good seems to ever come from these "ONE WORLD" organizations that really are designed against the U.S. --

Why am I not surprised these MOROONS would try to pull a stunt like this
