I want to set up a wireless network again. The first two failed. I have bought Linksys Wireless -G 2.4 GHz and D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G Wireless router. Each worked briefly and them stopped working.I hired an expert to install these systems, and will again.

...and need expert information on how to get my mission of being wireless accomplished. I have many wireless phones throught the house. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'm confused. 'Worked briefly and then stopped working?' Why not get the expert to explain why their installation failed?
Perhaps a neighbor is connecting to your wireless and reconfiguring it. This setup should not be this hard.

That could be a big problem for your system. I'm on an IBM Thinkpad T42 using the onboard wireless. I use Linksys AP's and I don't bother with D-Link's etc...
One thing you could try if you don't want to throw away your phones is to switch to 802.11a but you will need to get new cards for you other PC's. My Thinkpad has 802.11a built in as well as b/g.
After many hours on the phone with India it was decided that the Linksys was DOA.I gave up until now, when I decided that I am fortifiedand motivated and ready to start from scratch.
Just a couple of random observations - I've had few difficulties with wireless, and they stemmed from the following two causes:
-Some newer wireless phones might conflict with an 802.11 wireless network. 900Mhz phones will not cause any problems, however - So I would stick with those. As an added benefit, 900Mhz technology is more mature, and you can find bargains in those older phone models.
-I have a new Dell laptop with a built-in wireless capability. I've found the built-in WiFi is basically worthless; I disabled the internal WiFi, and plugged in a PCMCIA WiFi card, and it worked fine, and it detected a lot more networks.
LOL....I paid a geek and hoped for the best.
On the phone with India??? Good luck...I needed a replacement mouse...They sent me 5 discs to reprogram my puter.
Just a thought on this part of the setup.
If the phones are 2.4 GHz, and the wireless system is 802.11g, which also runs at 2.4, but uses a multiplex setup that should help avoid the conflict with straight 802.11b radio cards.
I have what you have; D-Link 802.11g wireless router (DI-624); have three ThinkPads connected wirelessly; two use D-Link PCMCIA wireless cards, one using a Cisco card.
First hint: it shouldn't matter, BUT........pick a brand and stick with it across the board unless you're damned good. IOW, use D-Link stuff, or all Linksys stuff.

Microsoft has made it easy... but I can't even get a database server to run on my local host on the 3306 port without running into one kind of error or another. Running such a connection or going wireless with hardware still has configuration difficulties.
I have 7 of these phones all over plus they are brand new. I can't change them .Can I change their frequency?
Just curious about the hardware. You describe a Linksys device and a D-Link router. Is the linksys your card? Are you trying to run two WAPs together?
In any event, Good luck, and keep at least one wired connection if you do any banking, shopping, or really personal stuff over the net. Wireless has gotten more secure, but it is still open (at the home level) to serious attacks.

Most of the wirless "cards" come with their own connection software. You can use it or what's built in to Windoze. You might try both of them.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you this but be darn sure to crank up WEP and make sure you have encryption. I'd also suggest you change the default SSID to something else besides the default (you set the client to look for whatever you change it to) then turn SSID broadcasting it off.
Some of the recent Linksys have a bug when you change the default password from "admin" to the password you set. Usually, after you change the password the way you log back in is "admin" then "newpassword". The bug makes you leave the username blank then enter the new password just by itself.

I have a lynksis wireless and it has been installed for about a year and a half. Never missed a beat. I now have 3 wireless computers smoking on it! At&t 2.4 ghz phones and a 900mgz right next to it.
I replaced the LinkSys with a Netgear 11g wireless router and haven't had a lick of trouble since.
