My scholarly friend Herb Meyer contends the American Revolutionary War was the greatest intellectual event in western civilization, not simply because the British were beaten, but rather it determined God's power flowed to the people and not to the kings.
With that, insists Meyer, the rule of law and the concept of individual rights were born.

Marxism and their forms of Cultural Marxism are a religion, a collection of cults.

Yes New Jersey is a free state compared to New York. After living under Pataki, It was actually hard for me to hate/get mad at Mcgreevy, who compared to Pataki is an ultra-conservative.
Taxes are much cheaper here, there are fewer regulations, I can drive and not constantly be pulled over and given a ticket, I can smoke in a bar, NJ is obviously not as pretty as upstate NY but there are still decent areas the hike.
And most of all, There is still hope for NJ (If we have good results in election in 2005), while NY just stick a fork in it, It's done.
I read 1984 back in the 1950s and thought "Thank Heavens that can never happen here." Now, Newspeak is the norm in the U.S. and "hate crimes" add extra punishment for what perps were presumably thinking when they committed them. Universities are veritable intellectual Gulags.
Paglia is always interesting -- for a Gaia-worshiping atheistic lesbian liberal. She combines a nimble mind with an impressive body of personal knowledge. But I think she often draws inaccurate parallels and sometimes baffles with BS instead of dazzling with brilliance in order to achieve her desired conclusions.
You noticed that as well. She has such an impressive mind, too bad she can't use it to think honestly. I like using her observations and ignore her opinions...
You were a hippie! I don't think I want to talk to no hippies! Just kidding :)
What year/years were you one of them, if I may ask?
Damn hippies!
Then we ran across the American Party in Florida. We got involved with the elections there, and found out that the American Party was in fact the John Birch Society. They advocated getting the U.S. out of the U.N., etc. and the restoration of our Bill of Rights.
Made sense to us, so we worked for their candidate and learned a lot.
Then moved to Missouri and were apolitical for a while. But after Clinton got in, and Waco went down, we became political again in a hurry.
We started a group called The GGG Group, from God, Guns and Guts. That's how we got involved with the Missouri 51st Militia. We still are members, but not active, as they are three hours away from us.
Boy, I covered the last 30 years in a hurry, didn't I? It's been fun, most of the time. And both the hippies and the militia are good people, by and large. There are nuts in both groups, as there are in any group of people. Hope I haven't bored you.

No not at all CD, thanks. Besides, I know how hippies can go on and on...! : )
"Let's Spend The Night Together" didn't help things either!
Hilarious photo.

I hope I didn't say anything offending CD. I was only joking with you per my last post.
That song always made me alternately angry and sad. It reminded me of past failed partners who could not control themselves and found out, rapidly, the limits of my tolerance (e.g. zero).
Oh, wow man, that's the biggest .... nose ... I ever seen! Far out!
Well the two hippies pictured up above never left that phase. Alinsky's poison saturated both. One ruined our nation for 8 years (after ruining Arkansas previously) and the other waits her turn.
Here is a statistic. Plot the draw down in military strength since 1987. Then, on the same axes, plot the percentage of leadership jobs in government, and in business, held by ex, reputedly ex and continuing hippies. Note the correlation.
He did.
