My 528e and 525e both had electronic limits of 95, now my 633i would do an honest 135.
Brand Loyalty is a wonderful thing, Riding a Harley Davidson is fun, but its taken Harley the last 20 years to cath up with the 76 Honda Gold Wing., When I say catch up I mean just to stay on the road with less maintenance, no Stock Cruiser Harley will keep up with the Honda off the line. I know I have owned both. It takes $1000 worth of chip changes and Screaming Eagle parts just to get the Harley to 100. I liked the Harley it does ride nice, and you think you look good profiling on it with the loud mufflers, but when it comes to reliability , power, creature comfort, The Jap bikes have it all over Harley.
The new V-rod Harley came out with a couple of years ago is a good example, They raced that Engine for 5 or 6 years with one of the best riders money could buy and never won a race. Factory teams, a great rider, Money to burn , but they just coulndt run with the big boys.
HOLY SH!T!!!
I'm fast approaching the 60 mark, and I grew up with a specific idea of what a motorcycle looks like, sounds like and feels like.
While I do appreciate the "art of the motorcycle", I am more in tune with the old masters rather than the modernists. Kinda like asking a 'vette buff if he'd rather have a 63 split or a brand spankin' new Z51.
I suppose the proper answer is both
Sure you did. I referred to the ticket, which contains 3 violations, none of which is resisting arrest.
You don't know what you're talking about when it comes to estimating the speed, having it thrown out as evidence, that there must be some sort of magical 'speed trap' etc....
The CVC section 40801 prohibits the use of speed traps in California and any evidence obtained illegally is inadmissible.
There is nothing "magical about speed traps.
They are just sections of the roadway that have been measured and the motorist is timed over that segment and then the speed is calculated using the formula time/distance.
We don't use speed traps where I work.
I am sure that you don't, since they are illegal. The Ca.Hwy Patrol has stretches of most of the interstates in rural areas with "hash marks" painted on the paved right shoulder spaced one mile apart. The clocking is done by the CHP planes patrolling that stretch. When a motorist is spotted exceeding the speed limit, the ground unit on that beat is notified and he/she makes the stop. The stopping officer claims that you were clocked on the ground. If it goes to court, the officer in the air testifies that he observed the vehicle traveling much faster than other traffic and notified the ground unit.
You don't say whether you are a member of any agency, but if you have any friends in the CHP ask them about how they use the planes along I5. They will give you the scenario that I just outlined if they trust you enough.
Trust me, do it in Monterey County, CA and you'll be in the pokey
No thanks, at anything over 85 you are not steering, you are aiming.
My wife is retired LAPD and was a deputy in LA county before that. We have many friends in several agencies, including CHP.
The first Evolution motor was built in 84. Thats 20 years ago, I know because I traded in my 76 AMF dresser in on one.It was a great improvement although I always liked the way the olf FLH was lower to the ground, But I got tired of replacing the Saddlebags when they rattled off. The new Engine with its Fuel Injection and dual cam is also a great improvement. I reached 62 my 88 Harley had over 100,000 miles on it and I had replaced base gaskets 4 times, fixed the transmission twice once to replace the shift lever the other to replace the shift spring, $400 bucks each time. The speedometer or cable had been replaced 3 times and was broken when I got rid of it. I took it to Harley to trade for a new one and was laughed at. I sold it for $3500. and bought a usedYamaha Venture with 30,000 miles on it for $7500 bucks. I have driven the Yamaha 7500 miles changed the oil once ,The book calls for oil changes every 8,000 miles. Havent spent a dime or 20 minutes working on it. It is faster than the Harley, Cheaper than the Harley It still has a year on the original 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. The guy I bought it from said the most useless thing on the Bike was the 5 year warranty as he ahd never been in for a warranty reason, and he seems to be right.
I dont like it like I liked the Harley, but now I am on a fixed income, I still like to ride it starts every time I hit the starter and I can afford to ride it. Buy the new Harley dresser for $23,000 and put 500 miles on it and when you take it back for its 500 mile checkup you are out another $500.00.
I dont go for the wheels up riders either they hurt motorcycling almost as much as the no mufflered Harleys.
**** Even being the manly-man that I am, I am not sure I want to wheelie to 135 or go 220MPH on a state highway. ****
You ain't sure??? Well, I am.
There ain't no way this guy is ever going to go that fast on any ground traveling vehicle. Even one with 4 wheels. ;-)

Your right it was 20 years ago for the evo. Sorry about the typo. You can get the same 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on a Harley. I've owned Hondas and Yamahas and I enjoyed riding them but they do not compare to the Harley as far as quality in craftsmanship and materials used in manufacturing but thats just my humble opinion. Ride safe and have fun.
I loved all my Harleys and I am glad to see them doing so well now. I remember when the Harley shops were gathering places for real Motorcyclists, before the yuppies came around. I can remember when you could park your Bike on Main Street in Daytona any time of the day during Bike Week. Ride up to Robison's and get a part and borrow the tools to put it on , and if you didnt know how there were about 20 guys hanging around that would help you. Try that at the new Daytona Harley shop. I miss the small Harley shops and their hospitality.I remember going on rides and breaking down, ride or get a tow to the Harley shop, tell them you were on vacation and broke down, You went number one on their fix list. The hotels at Daytona didnt double their prices during Bike Week. Motorcycling was great back then, even if the motorcycles werent. I always remember the guy who showed up at Daytona every year and did a big burnout on Main street , he would stop at the end of the block and get his ticket from the cops while we all booed the cop good naturedly. The Dirt drags at the Cabbage Patch where you just lined up and went drag racing.no registration. No helmet , no nothing but fun and good times. Now with hundreds of thousands swarming in to Rallies and prices doubling during Bike Week and Yuppies bringing their kids a lot of the fun is gone. As long as I am able I will be on two wheels , it doesnt matter the brand, its being in the wind that counts.
Nice acceleration...
sgtbono2002...Good post, bro.

Some of you argued about the validity of the claim that he was doing 205mph or “merely” 190. In that range, what does it matter? It’s still darned stupid, and gives most people the mistaken impression that all motorcyclists are crazy, reckless idiots who don’t care about road safety.
