Russia has every reason to criticize the United States, President Vladimir Putin said at a Kremlin press conference.
Were also not too happy about whats going on in the United States, the Russian Information Agency Novosti quoted him as saying. Do you think that the electoral system in the United States is without problems? Is it necessary to recall how the elections went this time and the previous time?
The president also noted that OSCE observers described elections in the Ukraine and the United States in practically the same terms.
They mentioned that not all voters were permitted into the polling stations, some were even intimidated; that candidates did not have equal access to the media, Putin said.
The comments were made in response to criticism from the West about the struggling status of democracy in Russia.
Whenever the criticism is constructive, we always pay attention, Putin said, while ignoring criticism that is repetitive and unfounded.
In the same press conference, the president, however, said that he completely trusted President George W. Bush despite disagreements.
Comparing the U.S. election to the Ukraine doesnt seem like a long stretch after the ordeal in Washington.

Not a shread of difference between KGB/mafia like Putin and the evil US democrat party.
Thank you Gore and Jesse Jackson.
Once again, Putin reminds us that the "Evil Empire" still lives.
True, but Bush won anyway. Also, I don't recall anyone trying to poison their opponent. Poisening the atmosphere doesn't count.
This is proof that all the DUmmie crybaby crap gets a LOT of play in the rest of the world.
Of course we know their reacquisition of power is FAR more important to them than the reputation of their country, pathetic.
What the Democrats are doing to elections is like a cancer growing in America, A cancer that could destroy us. One of the bulwarks of America has always been our elections. What will happen when the American people no longer have faith that their choices will be honored?
I'm curious as to whether or not Putin is attempting to slam GWB with a smile, or if he's making a subtle dig at Kerry's attempt to steal '04? Or perhaps Gore's attempt to steal '00?
It's pretty difficult to tell where a snake's loyalty lies, except when it's to himself.
Yes Mike, but it lives in Florida, Washington state and Washington, D.C. It lives in every state, but is more concentrated in the blue (oughta be called RED, as in Communist RED) ones.
I am not a Putin apologist or a Yanukovich supporter. I have been paying attention to this mess because this coming spring I plan on marrying a young Ukrainian woman (who, incidentally, is a Yanukovich supporter --yes, they do exist!)
That being said, it is important for us to reflect on the fact that democracy is still a very young concept in the former Soviet Union. They've had it for what, only 14 years?
It can be said that it took us well over 500 years from the Magna Carta to the Constitutional Convention to come up with a working system. A system that while not perfect has been about a close as one can get and has functioned well for over 200 years.
The Russians and Ukrainians will get there. It takes time (hopefully not 500 years).
Yep, and the only places where these things have been reported are in precints that are run by democrats. They all have democrat officials, democrat workers, therefore they are either incompetent or corrupt.
You are right, but at least we are able to prevent (as far as we know) the level of chicainery that took place in the 1960 election. The difference now, is that the real looser hasn't the class to concede, something the likely true winner did in 1960, to avoid the very problem you address.
Note to '08 GOP candidates: beware Dioxin pancakes/piroges.
Why should a loser concede when they procuce votes from sources never before known. Ballots found after the doors were locked, ballots that were previously ruld no good, ballots from everywhere as long as they are Dem ballots, Military ballots being considered Republican votes are lost forever.
I understand the sarcasm, and must agree. The reality is though, that these folks are destroying the nation. But then that has been the goal all along.
I urge folks on this forum to think long and hard before they do anything that will aide the democrats, the United Nations, U.N.E.S.C.O., the I.C.C., the WTO, dilitarious trade agreements, the A.C.L.U., A.N.S.W.E.R., La Raza, M.A.L.D.E.F. and known international terrorists and their organizations.
Each of these entities push the types of misconduct that destroys faith in our elections, trust of our officials, the importance and viability of our sovereignty, the ability of our citizens to earn a reasonable wage, the ability for our schools, hospitals and regional governments to function.
Most very important issues are interlinked today. Many do not understand this. As they front for illegality and enablement on one issue, they do not realize they are contributing to the overall effort concerning many issues.
Look at the groups that support what some on this forum do. That should tell thinking people that there's something they are not taking into consideration. Sadly, all too often, it doesn't.
Well, the Democrats haven't quite resorted to Dioxin poisoning yet, but given their rhetoric, it seems within the realm of possibility.
Well this shouldn't be too hard to check, shouldn't it.
---- USA ----
The 2 November elections in the United States mostly met the commitments agreed to by the 55 OSCE participating States in the Copenhagen Document of 1990 see Annex I. They were conducted in an environment that reflects a long democratic tradition, including institutions governed by rule of law, free and professional media and civil society involved in all aspects of the election process.
OSCE Report, 11/4/04
---- Ukraine ----
As for the first round, the second round of the Ukrainian presidential election did not meet a considerable number of OSCE commitments and Council of Europe and other European standards for democratic elections. Despite a number of serious shortcomings being identified by the IEOM in its statement of 1 November, the authorities failed to take remedial action between the two rounds of voting to redress biased coverage on State media, misuse of State resources, and pressure on certain categories of voters to support the candidacy of Mr. Yanukovych. Overall, State executive authorities and the Central Election Commission (CEC) displayed a lack of will to conduct a genuine democratic election process.
