There is another one which varies from state to state and also from county to county within a state.
We always pronounced "pecan" as pea-kahn, I know people in Georgia who always say the can part like in tin can.

My grandfather was born in 1895. So maybe "dope" was more widespread in his youth.

Where's my sarsaparilla and moxie? :-)
As for that other drink, it's always been soda for me (unless I was drinking a Coke).

I'm from Texas too, and I now live in California. People look at me strange when I call Sprite a coke.

Here's one:
What do you call the accumulations of fluff and other debris that coagulate under the bed?
My grandmother (also Augusta born) had a name for them I've never heard anywhere else.

Here in New York it's usually "soda", though sometimes "coke".
In restaurants, etc, it's usually "soft drinks" but no one really says "soft drink" outside a restaurant situation.

I lived in Lima, NY (20 miles south of Rochester) in the 70's, transplanted from coastal NC. We bought all of our "Cokes", and other soft drinks, from the
Pop Stop... and went to the branch bank in the local grocery store on Sunday.
It was a different world for us.
I moved from Wilmington, NC, where the folk at Independence Mall had to grant a waver to Belks, so they did not have to be open on Sunday (Blue Laws kept everyone else closed, except gas stations). Belks was closed on Sundays , by choice, whereas the rest of the mall was exempted by special legislation.

The map is inaccurate--here in Boston you still find a lot of people who call it "tonic". Like me!

What do you call the accumulations of fluff and other debris that coagulate under the bed? I've always called them "dust bunnies".
