SHOP AT TARGET -- THEY SUPPORT LGBTQ FAMILIES
Rainbow Law is calling for the LGBTQ community to support and shop at Target stores this holiday season. After Target refused to allow the Salvation Army to place bell-ringers and kettles at their stores (because they discriminate against the LGBTQ community), the anti-gay equality crusaders began their usual lies and propaganda campaign.
There is no reason to let this attack go unchallenged. We have the power to counter the far right's relentless assault on our civil rights and liberties. And one of the most effective methods for defeating unfair practices is by using the power of our combined financial resources.
Why would you continue to support companies who donate millions of dollars to campaigns and politicians who are hell-bent on destroying your family?
Rainbow Law has compiled a detailed list of the companies that contributed money in support of campaigns and candidates who oppose equal marriage rights and we are calling for a general boycott of these companies. [FReepers take note: please support these companies to counteract any pressure the LGBT might bring!]
To win the election at any cost, political campaigns lied about Gay and Lesbian Families and they lied about what Equal Marriage really means. Because of those lies, eleven state constitutional amendments banning equal marriage rights passed.
And the opposition was successful in spreading the lies via the media. That is why Rainbow Law also suggests that we find an alternative to mainstream newspapers, television and radio stations. Especially Clear Channel Communications and Fox Television -- two media giants with a proven right-wing bias and agenda.
For an alternative perspective, turn the channel -- listen to and support your local public broadcasting stations. Watch your Public Broadcasting station for the news. Listen to National Public Radio and Air America Radio and read newspapers and magazines like Rainbow Law's Un-Censored E-Zine.
In addition to supporting Target Corporation for their courage to stand up to injustice, we hope you will think queer as you make any purchase.
Instead of spending money at straight-owned enterprises, purchase products from queer owned or queer friendly merchants. When you are in the market for a new home, car, insurance, etc, support people who support your family. If you need help at work or at home, hire queer people to do things.
In the past, boycotts have been used successfully to pressure corporate supporters of bigoted politicians into withdrawing their financial contributions.
Together we have the power to make a difference!
why is msnusers.com trying to put a cookie on my system and then asking me to log in?
Target is really just becoming a must avoid store. Is this real or a joke?
Does target really want to be the "gay club" of retailers? Keep pushing this way and no heterosexual will want to be seen in that store.

The donations to republicans may be nice HOWEVER what kind of drugs are they consuming if they are baning the salvation army but supporting the homosexual marriage is not good business.
(is target in mass? did they drop homosexual sex partner benefits?)
Search away.
Personally, the #1 store that I'm trying to patronize right now is Sears.
First off, for Sears' dedication to their employees who have been activated and sent off to war.
Secondly, for that show on TV... I can't remember the name, but where they donate the materials for rebuilding homes for deserving families.
Yup, Sears is getting my money, even if it costs a bit more.
Mark
Nah, it's because many folks pronounce the name of the store "Tarzhay"
Great idea. Let the homosexual 2% of Americans patronize Target and other businesses which ban the Salvation Army and Boy Scouts, and the other 98% of us can shop at WalMart and other stores which don't. Sounds fair to me.
I agree completely, but that's not what is happening here. I'm not cutting the homosexual agenda any slack-- I'm simply stating you haven't made the case that the reasons Target chose to remove the SA's exemption to the policy has anything to do with an acceptance of that agenda.
If they see that daddy is something of a chameleon when it comes to questions of character and morality, then chances are that the child will grow to be just the same.
Likewise, if they see that it's OK for daddy to blindly jump on a bandwagon based on ill-informed leaps of logic, they will likely perpetuate that as well.
There's nothing in your proffered clipping that discusses connotations to recusing, and I think I'm understanding perfectly what you're intention is when you want me to "recuse" myself from this discussion.
As I explained to someone else on this thread, the fact that you were able to divine that my wife works for Target and that I'm currently under contract with them has nothing to do with detective work on your part-- it's because I said that it was so. In essence, that constitutes the statement of conflict of interest.
As to my financial stake in this matter; one of the points I was making is that a boycott of Target will do nothing to alleviate the situation. Why? Because the Left is also boycotting Target for their own perceived injuries.
I'm not worried about Target losing money and affecting my bottom line. What I am worried about is people reading a thread like this and, hearing no dissenting opinion, will take this thread as fact. Some of the arguments (both for and against) are well-founded, and some are crap.
But, having previously stated my affiliation openly, I've already met your burden, and I will certainly not "recuse" myself from this or any other thread on this forum, as I hope you won't.
No. I think you don't understand.
I don't care at all what their reasons are, as long as they're not founded on unchallenged, blatant falsehoods.
Is your faith in your reasons for not shopping at any given location so fragile that you can't stand to be exposed to actual debate, let alone defend your thinking?
If not, that's the purpose for discussions on these threads. You may want to heed your own advice: Get over it.
Sorry I misunderstood you, but reading between the lines of Target's statement, it sounds like they did succumb to either PC or threats or both.
No matter what you say, Target's decision will hurt their sales. Their executives handled this badly and should be fired.
I don't belong to any religion. My faith is in logic and common sense.
I repeat: Target has the right to cater to these people as they have chosen to do....Thats fine!...and, correspondingly, people have the right to not shop there because of Target's decision or for any other reason they may have.
It seems that you are unable to understand that these rights are fundamental.
Not hardly.

Songs in English and Spanish about peace are nice. The muslim cresent is nice. Menorahs are nice, as are songs about Ramadan. But.....no Christmas? .....they lost me. Is the school population made up completely of Muslims and Jews? If the answer is 'Yes', then they have a point. Otherwise, that's quite an affront. There are Scrooges everywhere, I guess.
I'd wonder what kind of a person would want keep kids from celebrating Christmas. She must be very bitter.
If it was me, I would tell the teacher that I am celebrating Kwanzaa (sp?) this year and that I was very offended by her exclusion of the holiday. Or.....maybe some winter solstice songs for the large Wiccan population would be appropriate. But then again, I'm a troublemaker.

QUEER?
I've only shopped Target a couple of times but will not go again. The SA is a great organization that helps anyone! A pox on Target.
So does Walmart, but I have no intention of boycotting them. If we stopped shopping at all stores that sell Chinese goods, we wouldn't go anywhere!
I did! It was a character I always called Mr. Shnitzelfriss. He was always speaking in consonants. M
Frankly, I've never seen Egon before on this Forum, and I suspect others have not either, especially considering that Free Republic has tens of thousands of active users.
Therefore, I simply wanted to raise a flag for my fellow FReepers who might not have understood where Egon's persistent defense of Target originated.
Maybe he need not "recuse" himself, but for the majority of FReepers who, on any given thread, do not know that he and his spouse have a financial interest in spinning this Target story, full disclosure on each thread on which he is spinning seems appropriate.
