Look, Bush is making a bad mistake with Mosul.
He should let thousands of Kurds go back there.
These Arab terrorists are hiding in Arab holmes in Mosul.
We need to bring in thousands of Kurds in Mosul.
The Kurds want to go back to Mosul, but Bush is not letting them in.
The Kurds would join with us is finishing off the Arabs.

If it was a mortar, how did those devils get in so close? I'm amazed that we would site a permanent base such that the entire perimeter out beyond mortar range could not be swept, secured and kept safe.
Prayers for the safety of all our troops -- and for the families devastated by today's news.

It's a problem that you have everywhere there is an American military base, consulate, embassy, etc...
Basically, an American presence anywhere on the globe.
Unfortunately, there's no way you're going to be able to resolve it aside from completely walling yourself off from the population.
I just hope and pray that future attacks like this can be preempted before they come to fruition.

Rockets can be fired many miles away. No need for an 'inside' job.
In case you don't realize it, there are locals that used to work these bases before we came in and took over. They know them better than we do! Then of course, we hire locals to work for us. And you can guess what they do after hours....

The Kurds seem to be attempting not to bite off more thna they can chew. Right now they are more worried about the Turks than anyone else.The Kurds have suffered some casulties in the past week. They are being picked off also.
The terrorist are killing any and every one that crosses their path. It was 3 Turkish embassy guards in Baghdad that were pulled from a vehicle, shot, one beheaded in the streets in broad daylight last week.

mortars can go a pretty good way....couple of miles in fact for the big ones...
It was probably the normal 3 guys and a car...they set it up, threw them down and got the hell out of there....
Our bases are on the outskirts of the cities in iraq. The enemey knows this....
unfortunately it was a one in a million shot....

They (Iraqi's) would show up at the Norht Gate at Balad, they were searched and cleared, each little group you would hire would usually have one person that spoke English. The Camp Commanders had the responsibility to clear anyone that was going to work on post, they were given passes. System did not always work, we caught several with cell phones, who knows waht they were doing with those.

There are also security guards being hired from other countries armed forces, which doesn't instill a lot of confidence.You mean the Ghurkas? I don't have any problem with them at all.
I haven't seen any contract security guards at the base entrances in Iraq. And I've been to a couple of bases, too. Kuwait is a different story with Dyncors and/or CSA there.
