My father is a Nam vet and said the same thing. What can be done to keep this from being a Nam situation?
there are several ways but all of them costly. Everyone of the possibilities requires US personnel both military and civilian. To use indigenous personnel is asking for trouble. I am sure that the background checks for the indigenous personnel does not go deep enough. Secondly a huge radius for a kill zone if they don't have one would be nice. Vigilance is always the key and when someone is pacing off a compound you can almost rest assure that an attack is pending.
