THE SAN FRAN GUN BAN
By Michelle Malkin · December 17, 2004 04:11 PM
You've got to hand it to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. They are unrepentant, unabashed, and undeterred gun grabbers--and there ain't nuthin' that's gonna stop 'em from trampling all over the Second Amendment. Here's the AP/SFgate.com story outlining the board's sweeping gun ban proposal. Volokh notes it would ban the possession of handguns as well as the sales of all firearms and ammunition, including shotguns and rifles.
Defending the proposal, an official explained: "The hope is twofold, that officers will have an opportunity to interact with folks and if they have a handgun, that will be reason enough to confiscate it." Clayton Cramer responds to this deadly Big Nannyism: I love that: "an opportunity to interact with folks...." What they mean is that if the police find someone carrying a gun, they can arrest them and confiscate the gun. Oh, but they already can do so. It is unlawful to carry a concealed handgun in California without a permit (Cal. Penal Code 12025), or to carry a loaded firearm in an incorporated area (like San Francisco) openly (Cal. Penal Code 12031) and when they arrest you for either violation, they confiscate the gun.
Some of the gun ban advocates are using the old public health rationale and are touting the measure as a suicide-prevention strategy. Which prompted two great comments. One from Cramer and one from Opinion Journal.com's James Taranto: Cramer. Wait a minute: I thought liberals supported the right to suicide. They certainly support physician-assisted suicide. But they oppose suicide with a gun? Does anyone besides me find that just a bit bizarre? Advocates of the ban present it as a suicide-prevention measure. Says Bill Barnes, an aide to Supervisor Chris Daly: "We know that for even law-abiding folks who own guns, the rates of suicide and mortality are substantially higher. So while just perceived to be a crime thing, we think there is a wide benefit to limiting the number of guns in the city."
Update: Xrlq notes this is a repeat from 22 years ago. |
Also, the elite fascist left wingers of America like DiFi and Peralta should be the only ones in America with hand guns in their eyes.
Let's see how long it takes them to initiate those house to house "interactions."
That's a nice photo you posted there, of some police officers interacting with a citizen. Friendly community policing.
Yep. Thank goodness they were trained German professionals with those handguns.
Imagine the risk if untrained civilian Jews were allowed to own firearms from 1936-1945.
The amazing thing is now relatively new this all is. In the mid 1980s I walked into a gun shop in West Hollywood and walked out with a beautiful brand-spanking-new FN-FAL Para and a half dozen 20 round mags. No fuss, no muss.
Even 10 years ago one of the nicest gun shops I've ever been in was the San Francisco Gun Exchange. A shop dataing back generations, it was located on 2nd just of Market. It was a nice old building, and the shop was full of beautiful oak and glass cases. My wife got her Ruger GP-100 there. I also remember a nice collection of Randall Made Knives in a display case up front.
I believe they were somehow forced out of the city, though I'm not sure the exact mechanism that was used. Sad all gone now.
Now you've got the AWB, AWB registry, special gun requirements, blah blah blah. Why are the Dems so set on gun control? Idiots.
The truly oppressed never revolt.
They're the ones with the guns.
"Why are the Dems so set on gun control? Idiots."
In their drug burned out minds taking guns away from decent people (who they consider the enemy) stops crime.
In their confused thinking laws will be obeyed by criminals, who by definition don't follow laws.
This is the same reasoning that is the death knell of the Rat's party.
Roger that!
A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to a naturalized US citizen originally from South Africa who now lives in Arizona who loves to quip "Why don't you immigrate to America? I did." Which, I have to admit, is kinda funny but also misses the point. There is, really, no where left to run. Plus, aside from the whackos, this is a great place to live -- take a look out the window this morning if you need any confirmation!
That's our Cali dilemna. If we all abandon Cali, it will eventually fall to the Aztlaners and other kooks. And America cannot retain its world position, if it loses Cali.
Cali shows how fast a state can turn hard left on guns.
I suspect the average scumbag politician can have their interest grabbed at least a little by even a few hundred honest, motivated demonstrators---
Ping.
When I think about the original Bear Flag Revolt, I'm embarassed. But then again, that's what this is all about. They know what fires burn in the souls of patriots, and it terrifies them.
Of course they have themselves convinced that they are right, that somehow they are above the the beliefs of our founding fathers and the ideals of the settlers who came before us here in California.
It's sheer hubris on their part.
So long as we let the Leftist call the shots with their insane "political correctness" and allow the Republican party to sell out our nation to illegals, there ain't a bloody thing we can do about California's fate.
Kill political correctness at its source and start electioning anti-illegal Conservatives who'll seal the borders and THEN we'll have a shot at salvaging California.
Until such time that those two things come to pass, we'll just be p!ssing in the wind.
Damn, man...where the hell did you learn to type?
