Bill Moyers: There might be sadness over his retirement in the echo chamber of his physical, social and political neighborhoods. But none from us.
Moyers, a longtime journalist who's retiring Friday, fouled the airwaves for decades with his own linguistic pollution. He kept it clean enough; no filthy Whoopi Goldberg or Chevy Chase rants against the right.
Moyers instead fancies himself as an above-it-all sage whose pronouncements from on high are like a word from God.
It's all been a cover for high-brow slurs, though. Consider this from the Feb. 28, 2003, ....

Catch the self-assured superiority, the condescension? Anyone who supported the Iraq war favors the U.S. military killing innocent Iraqis and is the moral equivalent of a mass murderer.
Typical. Moyers, primarily associated with PBS though he was on CBS and NBC payrolls at various times, dedicated his career to smugly maligning conservatives, mocking Christians though he holds a theological degree and shilling for the socialist-democratic state, because he believes "in our collective responsibility."
Don't agree? Too bad. You're part of the collective.
From his PBS throne, Moyers repeatedly told Americans what's good for them, for in his sphere the bulk of them are simply incapable of deciding that for themselves. And freedom and the free market are not part of his prescription.
Over the years, Moyers propped up his positions by interviewing people from left-wing groups, many funded by the Schumann Center for Media & Democracy a foundation he just happens to supervise, draw a hefty salary from and whose $61 million in assets heavy on energy stocks he administers.
No one ever really called him on this glaring conflict of interest.
Moyers clearly has had it good. He could not have had such a life without the many benefits afforded by the very system he scorns.

One less pompous ass fouling up the airwaves.
LBJ created PBS and Moyers on the same drunken weekend.
Moyers is a hick who came to the big city and thought he had discovered it.
Whaaaat? You said he came from a red state?
Bill Moyers: a left-wing Texas pussy.
=================================================
Because the RATS were not winning
he is stepping up the spinning
If you have a brain, you know
Moyers blows, Moyers blows, Moyers blows
The season for most is happy
but for Bill it's turned out crappy
If you have a brain, you know
Moyers blows, Moyers blows, Moyers blows
Though he claims he's nonpartisan
we should never be challenging that
But the truth slaps you in the face
he lies just like every RAT
Many years he's been PBS-ing
of his views there is no guessing
If you have a brain, you know
Moyers blows, Moyers blows, Moyers blows
With O'Reilly he's doing battle
let us laugh as Moyers prattles
If you have a brain, you know
Moyers blows, Moyers blows, Moyers blows
We love to hear lefties whining
here's some cheese
enjoy your dining
If you have a brain, you know
Moyers blows, Moyers blows, Moyers blows
Though he claims he's nonpartisan
we should never be challenging that
But the truth slaps you in the face
he lies just like every RAT
Just like Helen the Troll he's crying
and deep down inside they're dying
If you have a brain, you know
Moyers blows, Moyers blows, Moyers blows
Hadn't heard of him in years. glad he's gone. when do we get rid of PBS?
He sounds like the Jimmie Swaggart of PBS.
The 1960s gave us an entire generation of pompous lefties, who honestly believe that they are "the best and the brightest" and therefore deserve to tell the rest of us how to live their lives. Moyers, Rather, Jennings, Kerry... they're all in that group.
Fortunately, they are all about to retire, and there have been no similar circumstances to produce anyone with the faux gravitas needed to replace them.
Instead, we will soon see a generation take control whose formative decade was the Reagan years.
You don't need to kick yourself.
We all know that Texas has a terrific track record of cranking out superlative soldiers, citizens and statesmen.
As for Bill Moyers, LBJ, Molly Ivins, Ann Richards, and Natalie Maines, the exceptions prove the rule.
Give your gluteus maximus a rest.
I agree. Johnson was and still is a disaster. Are you from the Blanco area. I wrote a song about the Pernales River and a trip we took out there.
bump
Good riddance to that drunk-driving scumbag.
Isn't Moyers the guy who produced the anti-Goldwater commercial with the little girl and the daisy?
I know that this guy is a statist chump, but those Power and Myth interviews with Joseph Campbell are first-rate.
